Great analysis of the Middle East history
Excellent analysis of historical facts and their present consequences not only on the particular region but entire globe. The history of Ottoman empire, the greatest Muslim dynasty of world, its downfall and emergence of new world order after the two world war, which entirely changed the middle east region, was very informative to understand the current turmoil of the region. The influence of European powers in the region aggravated the problems instead of resolving them. Thanks to writers for a true and unbiased analysis of historical facts.

Great general introduction
Great general introduction, but very limited it what it covers. It is a starting point for though getting into history of the region.

Very poor page quality
Is this a Penguin book? I doubt. I think it's a fake print because the page quality is very poor. While I'd seen a couple of reviews on these lines but decided to purchase it because the Book is what it is - superb! I'm not returning it, because I don't see any other publishers.

A Good Read for those curious about the region
Overall the work is well written, it functions more like a fluid history of the Middle East from the most ancient times to the modern era, with Pelham's section being substantially more noticeable than I originally thought it would. He has a strong bias toward Israel and fails to be a neutral arbiter like Peter Mansfield, but overall a good book.
