solid true crime novel
I am an avid true crime fan. This is a solid read. Not the best true crime I've ever read; for some reason I had a little trouble following it and I can't exactly explain why. It could be that this guy Gerald Carnahan seemed to be just an all around (I'm searching for a nicer word than I am thinking) a JERK - what he does in this book and he has money so he gets away with everything but I am glad that he did not get away with Murder. Some of the things he does in this book (outside of taking a life!) is just mouth dropping. Unreal!! I am thinking of page 204 when there is a fire and I don't want to give anything away but he does something to this car - not his car by the way and I am just stunned - if he was in my neighborhood I have to say he would have had a bit of street justice hit him before he ever got to court!!Thumbs up for true crime fans - only took away one star because I am rough with true crime and I've read so many that 5 star has to be outstanding and this is good, just not the best I've ever read; but, again, a definite read.

Some Details Are Unclear To Me, and some background information is a bit off. I'd like to see a map of all this.
I am very familiar with where the 7-11 store was, the adjacent Mobil Home Park, CC road, HW 160, where the John's lived and where Garnett Carnahan's home is. It is a nice home and property, but it is clearly a stretch to reference it as a 'compound'. That is pretty much a minor issue tho. The book did not make it clear where Gerry's truck was spotted. Was it spotted on 'Old CC' and additionally on 'Old CC' near the 7-11? Was it spotted on HW 160 near the 7-11 too? If his truck was broken down that night how did he get to his home off Fremont across from the golf course? ...and later to the storage area he also said he went to that night? There was no mention of a second vehicle. The book does say he rode to work the next morning with Sara/step daughter. Where was his truck? *Guilty!!!

Murder On A Lonely Road
This True Crime book is one of the better ones. The authors George Pawlaczyk and Beth Hundsdorfer know their subject matter, and do a surprisingly good job telling this story about one more crazy, vicious killer, who deserves nothing but electric shocks for breakfast, lunch and dinner, to remind him of the terrible deeds he seemed to enjoy so well. Besides my tiny outburst (much better now), I found this book to be a cut above the large number of books in this genre. A collaboration in this case, seems to have very smooth results on the reading department. The story is pure evil and the characters depicted throughout keep the pace going. I would not qualify this book as boring by a long shot, but then again what is exciting for many, may not be so for everyone, as a reviewer mentioned being bored while reading it. Nice job, price adequate for the bang. That is for sure. 4 Stars.

True Crime , well written
A very interesting true crime case which could easily have been a cold case ,and actually was for several years, although the police never gave up. By the time they were able to link the killer to their crime, they found that he had been involved in several others too.Good story if you like true crime .

Well done, for the most part
This was a good read, and I did enjoy it just like I enjoy true crime documentaries. It's a terrible crime that occurred and a shame how long it took to be solved. The authors were detailed in their accounts of the people involved in the crime and its aftermath for the many years it went unsolved, however the story did repeat itself often with the result being that the story became a little dull or repetitious in parts. There was also some confusion in the way that the authors laid out the story, bouncing back and forth between years and people so that sometimes it was hard or annoying to keep straight. All in all this book was a good read for people who are interested in true crime stories. It was worth the money and the time, for sure.

This book kept me interested from the get.
The copy I received went for about 50 something pages, then restarted the book completely over again. Not a big deal, still loved the read.

I couldn't put the book down until it was finished!
Excellent coverage of a 25yr old case, I couldn't put the book down until it was finished. Although I didn't know the victim Jackie Johns, I did know the perpetrator Gerald Carnahan, and another of the murdered girls written about, Debbie Sue Lewis. Debbie and I were best friends that summer and were together the night she disappeared. I always suspected that Gerald had something to do with her murder and am so glad that he was finally found guilty in Jackie's case. Now he is off the streets and where he can't hurt anyone else. The authors of this book did an excellent job of explaining the circumstances surrounding this case. They covered all the actual facts in a succinct manner without making it boring or just seem like fiction. I loved the additional coverage of the other unsolved cases from around the area at that time, I only wish someone could figure out what happened to them.

Very interesting and heartbreaking case....
Murder on a Lonely Road tells the story of Jackie Johns and her brutal rape and murder. The authors are first-timers and it shows a bit in the somewhat choppy flow of information. They also contradict themselves with the facts a couple of times. But overall, it is an attention-grabbing story that is worth your time to read. I like how the authors don't go on and on about every single detail of the trial, but do more of a "hit the high spots" run through. I would definitely read more from these two true crime writers again. I'm hoping for a follow-up story on Gerry Carnahan being found guilty of other murders.
