Suzuki Guitar School, Vol 1: Guitar Part

Solid book, but not for self-teaching
I hope this review helps some other students, young or older. My six year old son has been studying Suzuki guitar for a year, and we are big fans of the method. Our teacher is very knowledgeable about the Suzuki method, and we have had a number of discussions with him about the differences between the various instruments. The Suzuki violin book 1 is more involved, as it was the foundation for the development of the Suzuki method. With violin you end up spending a lot of time early on focusing on form and method. With guitar, you move more quickly to playing, and the teacher's involvement and advice becomes very important.Overall, all the books are clearly written and helpful in our lessons and practice. However, they shouldn't be used in isolation. We have learned over the last few years that a great teacher and an involved community of students are important part of Suzuki. It is very valuable to play guitar with other students and to be exposed to various teachers and workshops. Good luck!

Wonderful method for children!
Amazing method for beginners! My 7 year old started both piano and guitar lessons a month ago. I canβt believe how quickly heβs picking up both!!The Sukuzi method is extremely impressive and works great! Heβs using Suzuki method for both instruments and it has been extremely helpful having the CDs to listen to!

Love this method
This is what my kids teacher recommends for learning to play. Itβs a great program and the kids catch on quickly.

Perhaps "School" is a misnomer
This book makes no sense. It describes how to hold the guitar, but then the lessons already assume you can read music and know the notes. Also, it uses notation which is never described. It is essentially a 15 songs/practice exercises for someone who already plays at a beginner/intermediate level.

Beginner
It's a good one for beginners. My 7yr old learnt a lot through it.

It will do a job
It will work but only because I'm experienced in music to work around an issue I have with this set. Suzuki method is an ear first approach which I think works for children very well. In the violin method books the accompanying audio is the actual sheet music. The accompanying audio here is a slightly richer arrangement which is nicer to listen to but ISN'T the lesson. These should have been additional tracks. Now I'm gonna have to record myself playing the lessons for my daughter. It's not very helpful in that respect, I would call it confusing for someone new to sight reading.

Very uninformative
This book does contain sheet music, it however doesnt tell you how to read it and does not explain many of its notations on it, making it useless for a beginnier.
