Small profile, great look
I love using these in older homes that have 2x6 joists. Note that if you purchase thru Warehouse Deals, you might get a pretty beat up unit. I bought four, had to return two. One of the returns wasn't even an IC unit.

Good Can for 1496P Light Head
A well made, nice size junction box that is much better and easier to use than the cheap-o units. Used these in a new bathroom to light a 36x18 stained glass interior window.

Defective transformer
I installed this fixture and once powered up the light powers for 15-20 seconds then cuts out. I will need to tear my ceing and finished apart to replace. Not happy

All 8 items received severely bent up like they were kicked all the way to my house.
This is a recessed lighting enclosure meant to be mounted between ceiling joists above (or before installation of) drywall, in an environment where insulation may be present, so it involves a fairly large enclosure. It's basically a big metal box about a foot cubed, with extendable mounting rails that are meant to extend to meet up with and be nailed to the joists. The rails are made of rather soft and malleable metal. They protrude past the outer envelope of the box even when fully collapsed. These two factors combined present the need for proper packing during shipment to prevent impacts to the protruding rail ends and associated hardware. As you might guess, this need was not met in my case. Each item was securely wrapped in bubble wrap with a liberal amount of very strong tape (way too securely actually.. took forever to unwrap them, even with a sharp knife). But even despite such hefty bubble wrapping, they ALL were severely bent up. The 8 items arrived distributed between 3 large boxes (about 2' x 3' x 4' each), each of which was probably 2 to 3 times bigger than needed, creating the opportunity for lots of item movement during shipping if not enough spacer material was used. And indeed not enough was. Basically the spacer in each box was a single piece of brown paper maybe 2' wide and 6' long, crumpled into a rope shape, taking up maybe 10% of the space it needed to to secure the items. The result was like the proverbial "tossing a hotdog down the hallway" if you know what I mean.Every protruding metal rail end (8 items x 2 rails x 2 ends per rail = 32 ends) was totally bent up, even though under 3 layers of bubble wrap. They must have shipped these floppy, mostly-empty and underspaced boxes to me via dune buggy road rally, and rolled the buggy end over end several times along the way. Would have been fun to watch; unfortunately I didn't get to see it, only the end result.Complicating this, the rails are not flat metal - they are stamped into curved cross section (presumedly to strengthen them) - which means once they got bent, bending them back into proper shape was not only difficult but generally resulted in warped rails as you can't simply hammer them back to flat or you eliminate the strengthening curved cross section. So I mainly had to use my fingers and enormous effort, at considerable pain. Ever tried to unbend one of those thick wire coat hangers back to perfectly straight? It's not easy. Imagine that but 3 times stiffer, and with sharp edges along the entire length. Times 32 of course. Very sore.I connected a trim kit and bulb to one of them and wired it up and it was functional, so I suspect all 8 will probably work, assuming I am able to successfully install them given the poor movement of the rails seeing as they are still somewhat non-flat. Since they are covered by drywall once the job is finished, there is no concern with cosmetic appearance. My frustration was mainly with the packaging, which was at the same time both overpacked (impregnable bubble wrap reinforced with tape) and pathetically underpacked (the hotdog in the hallway). That takes talent to accomplish both at the same time. Bravo Amazon.

Easy to install
Easy to install, but have had it less than 2 months and the fixture is now humming. I will not buy any more and will convert this one to a standard 120v unit. Very cheap transformer is all I can speculate.
