Sound damping
The product is similar in fasion to owens corning 703 acoustical material. It is precisiion cut to fit within a ceiling grid. It is not a standard ceiling tile nor should it be considered as such. This product is coated black on one side to bond the fibers tight together and give it a smooth finished look. It is a good fit and finish for what it is, a true acccoustical tile. It does have some rigidity to it but not equal to a standard generic tile, although it does have some flexible properties that allow it to give in tight spaces. I purchased this product to add sound damping/ absorption in a dedicated/ designed theater room to reduce first wave reflections from above. It does its job well. It is also great at almost completely eliminating any ambient light redlecting back onto the movie screen from above.

Very nice overall!
These were fantastic. Warning, use a bread knife if you need to cut them and MAKE SURE IT'S level or you may have a hard time getting them to fit! 2" thick and I did tests with speaking voices at a big pane of glass with and without this in between and it was SIGNIFICANT! I also noticed this helped for noise upstairs and absorbed some of the room noise as well. Pretty basic black with a swirly fiber patter. The back is green-ish but be warned, there must be some fiberglass since I had some nasty itches later. Not as much as pink insulation but still there.

Sheds fiberglass!!!
I do not normally leave reviews, but I have got to warn whoever is thinking about buying these. These things are a health hazard! They are made from fiberglass and they shed at the slightest bump. I’m afraid to leave these things in the ceiling for fear of inhaling fiberglass constantly.

Quality
They’re alright. Not sure about the sound suppression but they are super fragile. One slip installing them and the face of the tiles immediately puncture. I have 1” and 2” they both do about the same job. Cutting is weird due to the fiberglass and the way it binds to itself. Don’t expect super clean cuts or to be able to install with ease.

These are not acoustic tiles per-se ...
These are not acoustic tiles per-se, but are an affordable substitute with great reflection damping qualities and look fantastic! Really made a difference in our little home theater vs traditional drop ceiling tiles. I'd prefer these over standard ceiling tiles even if it wasn't for a home theater, easy.

good choice for us - upgrading our studio interior.
I bought 1 test box of the 2x2 by 2" and I liked it. So I bought 8 more boxes to do the whole job. Aesthetically we love it. In these reviews some are calling it insulation and others are calling it ceiling tiles. I'd call it both maybe? It is exactly what we needed for our production studio and the show-side looks great. Out of the box it might look fibrous to some on the show side when inspecting up close, but I knew right away they would be a nice matte black (perfect for me) when installed. If you want something glossy and shiny like fresh black paint on a new corvette then this isn't for you. I haven't tested the acoustic qualities yet. I could write a page on my expectations there, but I'll wait to see. This is only one part of our other ceiling upgrades (we also did MVL barrier, R47 fibre, ceiling clouds etc) so I am managing my expectations for the part these new tiles will play in the ceiling system of our stand-alone building. And based on their material, I expect they will do their part well. I rarely give 5 stars but if it they had a beveled/recessed edge option that protrudes under the frame grid like some traditional ceiling tiles do then I suppose I would. Thumbs up all around and a fair price for us. - Craig, SunnyMoon Productions

Great cealing tiles
Great cealing tiles. I replaced my standard drop cealin tiles with these in a dedicated home theater room. With the standard tiles. when the bass hit from explosions the entire room would rattle in a bad way. Once I installed these tiles in if solved about 95% of the rattling problems in the room.
