Blu ray adds a lot to this great show
Summer series are often overlooked but luckily I found ROOKIE BLUE last summer. I was pulled in by Gregory Smith who I had loved on EVERWOOD and what I found was a cop show very unique, addicting and very well made. The show follows 5 rookies right from the very first day they go on the job. The show is perfectly cast. Characters are fleshed out fully and you get to know them and care for them very quickly. We follow the rookies as they learn the job step by step led by their training officers. The detectives in the department are also given full life here. This show is a very realistic look at the lives of newbie rookies. All dramas attempt that perfect blend of drama, relationships and slight comedy. Few succeed but ROOKIE BLUE does it very succesfully. I just finished watching the first season on blu ray and was very impressed at the character development and depth this series created in only 13 episodes. After just a few I felt like I knew these people. Every week there is an intense drama story to be told while the inter-relationships of the squad always stay in full focus as well. Stand-outs here are Missy Peregrym as rookie Andy McNally and Ben Bass as her training officer Sam Swarek. Their very strong chemistry and give and take relationship is a big part of the glue that holds this show together. And Ben Bass hits the screen here as the next sex symbol just as McDreamy did on Greys Anatomy. But all the other actors are just as strong. From the biggest role to the smallest, each is perfectly cast. Now to the blu ray. To watch this show in blu ray adds a whole other dimension over the dvd. It comes in an inspired 1080p video transfer and the picture is crisp and detail strong. Colors are vibrant and flesh tones very realistic. The black/white ratio holds strong throughout the day and night scenes. This show has many scans of scenery asnd many close-ups of the cast and the blu ray enhances this tremendously. Action sequences are much more realistic due to the picture clarity. The audio has a Dolby 5.1 or a DTS HD Master Audio option. The DTS option is amazing and all your speakers will be in strong use as city noises, gunshots and voices come out of all speakers. It presents a very realistic listening experience for a strongly dramatic show. If you can pay the little extra for the blu ray you will be very pleased.I cannot wait for the upcoming second season and highly recommend this show. It is a truly fresh look at rookie life with characters you care for and stories that pull you in fully. Intense drama, romance and realistic relationships make this show rise above many others. Don't miss out on ROOKIE BLUE.

Rookie Blue might surprise you
The blu-ray set is actually quite nice, has a few bonus features including making of featurettes, behind the scenes, and cast and crew interview and also a very short sneak peek at season 2 (which we've seen!)This is a great series and I am rather particular about my police drama shows. I don't like the shows that seem too technical and easy (DNA results in 5 seconds! Suspects who conveniently confess to everything) This series follows Rookie police officers, they do things wrong, they make mistakes, they uncover parts of policing that they hadn't imagined. This kind of job is unique, no training can prepare you, so watching them experience these situations is dramatic in itself and I think the writers were smart enough to know they didn't have to make over-the-top.Also, the characters are likable. I enjoy them all, and I love the drama and the romance. The only thing I might have added to it was to show the differences women face in a job that is primarily men, that is never really addressed in much detail. I was surprised by this show, I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I tend to go for the reality shows, Cops, Women in Homicide, 48 Hours etc. This is the first drama I actually enjoyed other than The Fall and Luther.Good job!

I was once a Rookie Too!
Missy Peregrym is always a wonderful to watch. If she could even do have the things she did in the movie Stick It this is one tough actress. With a good supporting cast she and the others make each case interesting and shows some of the mundane sides of the job. In one episode she leaves her gun at the station by accident and many of us real cops have done it too forgetting to get it after we've spend 2 to 3 hours booking a prisoner and then getting a call we have to answer. Getting locked out of the patrol car in one episode. Yep, I've done that too on a traffic stop. So they are showing real things that happen but teaching the rookies it happens. It's a light drama for the Canadian police.

What a wonderful well acted show!!
This is the story of five rookies who work in a Toronto Police Department. It shows the mistakes the newbies make, which are at times pretty funny, and how life on the streets is a lot different than any of them expected. The show is very people driven, and shows the ups and downs of relationships in the police department, as well as the work they do. It is one of the best shows out there, and fortunately, is NOT formula driven. Each week is new and interesting. It is well acted, has a great supporting cast and wonderful writers. It is made in Canada, and is more low key than the shot-em-up with lots of car chases that is so common in this country. Rookie Blue is refreshingly honest and I believe gives more of a real look at police work than any other shows I've seen in a long time. I love the show, and can't wait for the new season to come out.

Lots of fun, enjoyable summer show
While Rookie Blue isn't going to win any major awards for realism, production quality or acting or whatnot - although several of the actors are excellent - it is a highly enjoyable escape very well done by Canadian TV producers. I binge watched all available seasons on Prime Instant Video and had a splendid time doing it. Great balance of humor and character drama, although I do occasionally wish that the screen time was more spread out between the five rookies, as opposed to weighing heavily on Missy Peregrym's character Andy. All that said, I shall keep watching if new seasons continue to come out. Watch and enjoy!

rookie blue
I love all the characters! What a wonderful idea! Cops training to be cops! When Missy goes into the hostage negotiation with an empty gun! The love triangle is always good too and the 'Peck' blonde girl who has to succeed even if she cheats. This series gets 10 stars from me!if u don't like this series there is something wrong with you.

Rookie blue season 1
Season 1 of a great Canadian series - with very talented Canadians performing, writing and producing this series. Purchasing this season, as well as 2,3 and 4 should also be done to should support for Canadians in the industry and if that is not enough - the shows are great! I am looking forwarding to adding season 5 and 6 to my personal library.

RB fans S1
Right from the beginning episode I was hooked on Rookie Blue. Its variety of characters and their relationships within the police department, not just focusing on one or two individuals, but all of the rookies in every episode. Plus a number of different storylines going on in every episode. Best purchase I've every made.
