Shallow quicky book of quotes
This book is nominally 160 pages but in reality probably a good 30% of that page count is citations, making this one lightweight book. Maybe 1-2 hours to read. The book is assembled of the following parts -Quotations: pull quotes from various published sources- a sentence to a couple of paragraphs long -Milestones: Chronological summary of events in Jobs life -End of an Era: Reprint of Job's public resignation letter -Citations: source for each of the quotesThe selected quotes are fairly pithy and from a good variety of sources and organized around themes. So thats a plus. However, they are all from publicly available sources that the reader could come across on their on from magazine articles, public speeches and interviews that Jobs gave. There are no new interviews in this book. Also if you have been around IT very long you can probably think of a dozens of counter examples for each one of pithy aphorisms provided as quotes. Companies who have done just what Jobs talks about only to crash and burn."Apple's the only company left in this industry that designs the whole widget. Hardware, software, developer relations, marketing. It turns out that that, in my opinion, is Apple's greatest strategic advantage." Companies dont do that any more because totally vertical integration is slower, less flexible, and locks you into a 'not invented here mindset'. AppleTalk was a good idea?"We do no market research. We don't hire consultants. ... We just want to make great products." One can think of many companies that were engineer focused and produced a product for which there was an insufficient market, or too many competitors. Those companies are now gone.Likewise, the Jobs quote praise the talent of Apples employees. But dont Microsoft, Yahoo. IBM have geniuses working for them? What about all the companies that are gone- Lotus, Palm, Netscape, Bay Networks, Motorola CPU etc etc. There are some interesting quotes here but I dont feel I gained any real insight. For every piece of advice I could see how that could also be disastrous. This feels very superficial and left me wanting the deeper insight thats not going to come in a MacWorld speech. The Walter Isaacson book, even at its inflate price, is probably a better buy. This book is best suited to the casual reader who is interested in Jobs and savoring some business aphorisms but is not looking for an in depth discussion of tech or business concepts. It's a quick breezy read that is attractively priced and may satisfy a reader who is somewhat aware of Jobs and will be satiated by an overview. It might also be helpful for a freshman or sophomore with a paper to write looking for some juicy quotes to plug into their essay.Download the sample before you buy.

A great book of Steve Jobs quotations.
Recently, I got the Isaacson book Steve Jobs giving it a four star review. If it had more quotes by Jobs I definitely would have given it five stars.I, Steve being entirely dedicated to Jobs quotes makes a perfect companion piece for that book and I recommend both. I decided on Kindle because I like to highlight great quotes, and because of its compelling price. It's about 160 pages as a book which equates to about 300 pages on Kindle with one 1 to 3 long quotes per page. In addition to one or two liners they can run to 8 to 10 lines, with extended quotes from diverse sources such as Time Magazine, Apple promotions, Fast Company, Stanford speech, Playboy, Triumph of the Nerds , the Smithsonian, and many others, which if you're like me you probably have not read before, and won't find on a typical quote search. Here are some examples:Quality is more important than quantity. One home run is much better than two doubles. Bloomberg Businessweek, February 6, 2006.On the location of Apple stores in high end malls: The real estate was a lot more expensive (but people) didn't gamble with 20 minutes of their time. They only had to gamble with 20 footsteps of their time. CNN Money/Fortune, March 8, 2007.Slogan First Generation iPod: One thousand songs in your pocket. Apple ad, 2001.Success: Pixar's seen by a lot of folks as an overnight success, but if you really look closely, most overnight successes took a long time.Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the sound of other peoples opinions drown out your inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. Commencement address Stanford.Wisdom. I would trade all my technology for an afternoon with Socrates. Now is the time. If you're like me and many others you'll discover many quotes already highlighted by many others as you Kindle your curiosity. Some of the quotes highlighted by me were not highlighted by others, and some of the quotes highlighted by others were not highlighted by me, and I think you will discover your own favorites.I think you will find it fascinating, and I hope this was helpful.

Not as good as you might expect
This smells of being a hastily put together cut and paste job.I had come across most of the quotes before. If you have read any of the more detailed biographies of Jobs you won't find much new here.Possibly worthwhile as a very basic starting point if you want something to dip into but don't fancy reading a full biography.

Excellent
I bought this as a Christmas present for my son who is a big Apple/Steve Jobs fan. He had already read Steve Jobs recent biography (which he also enjoyed) and so I wasn't sure how interesting/informative he would find this book. I needn't have worried! He loved it. A definite 'must' for any Apple/Steve Jobs fan!

Not quite what i was expecting
I probably didn't read the description too well before I bought this, but I was expecting a biography of some kind. It's actually a collection of quotes and bullet points in history around Steve Jobs and Apple. Interesting but not really a "good read".
