I don't understand the difference between this & some of the $250 versions that are very similar or professional versions. Does anyone have insight?

I have one of the less expensive presses, it works fine. I think the exciting part of this press is that it has a timer, same as the less expensive, but you can set it and walk away or work on something else as it will open automatically when the time is up no need to hold down the top until it's ready. The pressure is always just right and it has presets so you don't have to keep setting the temps you need over and over. Essentially works the same just a bit more streamlined.

Yes! I bought a set of canvas totes and I was able to press them very easily!

Do you need teflon sheets for this press?

No. It has a pad on the bottom and the heat press is on the top. HOWEVER, you do need butcher or parchment paper for the top and bottom of whatever you are pressing. This will protect the unit especially if you are doing sublimation.
