Consoling the Heart of Jesus: Prayer Companion From the Do-It-Yourself Ignatian Retreat

Absolutely beautiful and much needed for daily spiritual growth

This is a book I have turned to again and again ever since I bought it. However, I recommend reading his original book, "Consoling the heart of Jesus," first, as this prayer companion is more of a summary. The author has a very engaging and persuasive writing style, drawing on the writings of several saints (Therese, Faustina, Ignatius) but simplifying them for little souls, yet without being simplistic; rather, he finds the essential kernel of their teachings which me might easily miss. After reading the "Consoling the Heart of Jesus" book, you will be filled with the certainty and consolation that Jesus really does want you, yes You, to come to Him and keep Him company, that no one else can replace You, and that even with your sins and faults you can console His heart who, after all, came only for you and wants you close to Him. As I read that book, I was amazed how the author systematically addressed each of my doubts precisely when it arose, and broke down all barriers to trust in God's love for me. Fr. Gaitley presents not only a theory, but several simple but very effective spiritual practices-- prayers and devotions-- to help you live this "Consoling Spirituality". This "Prayer Companion" contains all those prayers and devotions, as well as important sections from the first book as reminders of this beautiful spirituality.

This booklet is not anywhere as good as the big book, but if you are wondering if you are interested in ordering the regular book, this will give you a taste of it. I got this for a friend and didn't know if she would like it. I haven't sent it to her yet. The smaller book, which this is, actually has 77 pages in it, not including prayers, etc. The bigger book "Consoling the Heart of Jesus A Do-It-Yourself Retreat" has 235 pages, not including some passages from the Diary of St. Faustina and notes. Next to the Bible, this is the best book I've ever read, and I've read a lot. Very easy to understand. Although the priest who wrote this said the retreat can be done in a weekend, you better be a fast reader. I prefer reading a little and really think about what I've read. It is really good!!

This book will change your life. Make you understand God. Encourage you to live a better life for God.

While reading the book, "Consoling the Heart of Jesus" by Father M. Gaitley, I kept asking Jesus and Mary to bless the priest who took the time to write it! What a great gift of spiritual direction and love!! So when I finished that book, I immediately turned around and purchased this little summary of the lessons and prayers from Father Gaitley's book, and I carry it everywhere in my purse! I experience a wonderful lift of spirits when I apply the simple and effective teachings - JOY! Father Gaitely's instruction literally immerses me into the Heart of Jesus - and it brings relief with JOY to know I am consoling our Lord while being taught HOW! May God BLESS Father Gaitley :)
