They do the job. It's fun to look at the sun from time to time. And they were perfect for the eclipse last August. Spent a couple days traveling to get to/from center-line. $100 to enhance the experience was well worth it. But it's still fun to look at the sun from time to time even without the eclipse.

These solar binoculars give a clear, safe view of the sun. The 8x magnification is not as much as you'll need to see small solar flares, but ok for larger sunspots. Should be good for an eclipse. It does not compare to a small solar telescope, but is certainly more portable. As with most astronomical equipment, to really see much you'll need to mount these on a tripod to eliminate shaking. These have a mounting screw receptacle between the barrels, but the barrels are close together and larger binocular mounts will not allow the barrels to move. Got my Sunoculars today seeing the sun through an instrument for the first time in my life and I must say that I was floored by the details. I actually saw sunspots, clearly! $129 for such a premium instrument like this is an incredible value! Many thanks to Lunt and Amazon! Taken less than 10 secs to actually lined up the sun in the field of view! Amazing!

Great for eclipse viewing and general sun viewing as well. Easy to use and find the sun with, which if you've never used something like these before, isn't quite as easy as you might think.

Update: according to Amazon, these sunoculars have been RECALLED. I'm terribly disappointed that I purchased and used these.These sunoculars were the bomb! There are probably higher-powered sunoculars available, but not at this price point. These were better than our glasses and were easy to focus in for each individual as we passed them around the group for the 2017 Eclipse. The eclipse might be over, but you can still use them on other days to view the Sun. I plan to!

I bought these for the 2017 eclipse and worked as expected. I was able to see sunspots as well as being protected from harmful UV light. Would be 5 stars, but the price seems a bit steep.

I bought these for a 1 time use, they were over $100 and really, only need to work ONE time. Well, they didn't. The focus broke the day before the eclipse and I ended up needing to use a pair of pliers to adjust the focus (while I was looks at the sun as that was the only was to tell if they were focusing). Anyway, they kinda worked, I guess.
