Will this work on 1 gallon batches?

YES but you ave to clean te pump after, dry the filter and reused for next batch. before reuse the filter make sure you keep it in worm water

Do cartridges come with soaking solution?

No the cartridges do not come with soaking solution.

How much wine remains in filter system after transfer?

We filter white wine. So we use 4 different sets of filters and loose about 1/2 gal. Out of a 5 gal batch.
