The writing was very good overall and I particularly appreciated the efficient overview of key elements of an analogue kitchen. Many recipes felt advanced though for typical outdoor wood-fired cooking enthusiasts, and I would have preferred some more in-depth discussion of techniques over the open flame (especially for large dishes and/or cooking for larger groups - perhaps a consideration for the next edition).

Great Scandinavian Recipes Cooked over Fire
Its a reasonably delivered book. Nothing all that fancy or new. But all recipes have a beautiful Scandinavian heritage feel to them. Unique. And most recipes are pretty simple and delicious.

Nothing to do with the outdoors
Don't be fooled by the cover photo of an actual open fire. These recipes are cooked on a fancy gas stove and then quickly finished over a wood fire to add smoky flavors. There are a few pretentious yet vague pages on technique. This felt more like a fashion magazine than a cookbook.

Filled with great ideas
I keep going back to this book for inspiration. Well wrtten and presented. It is a chefs dream to cook only on wood. Well done.

Well produced alternative cookbook.
Excellently illustated and well written. Still waiting for a chance to get a fire going to try out the main recipes, but the biscuits and hot chocolate have all come out perfectly with no alteration (apart from adjusting for my oven, which is too hot for most recipes). Introductory pages are informative, and the recipes well laid out.Simple recipes in the main, as much about the technique as the technique of cooking as the ingredients. A few items required not available in my local supermarkets (Neep sugar, rose water) - but they can be found online. This is a good solid hardback book printed on nice, thick matt paper. The topic makes it a useful addition to the run of the mill recipe books on the shelf - something different.
