Nice on-camera monitor. Price is still a bit high though.
If you're familiar with SmallHD monitors, this is right up there with their expected quality. There are great in-depth reviews on this everywhere if you really want to get into details, but here are my quick thoughts:PROs:--Nice form factor. While the built-in battery plate like on the 502 is a missing feature (is avail as an additional purchase), this does come with a REAL power port, which works great when using on bigger camera setup.-- Runs on 12+v, so you can power it directly from a V or Anton battery P-tap without a voltage converter.-- Has that great SmallHD "analog feeling" peaking for focus which is a must for critical focus pulling.--Bright. As advertised, it's easily viewable outdoors.CONs:-- That INCREDIBLY annoying "register your monitor" screen that pops up when you least want it on a shoot. This should be something that can be selected and done in a menu IF wanted, but should NEVER EVER pop up unsolicited... much less OVER and OVER. It says something like "takes only a few seconds", but each time I've tried to register, it winds up being an annoying rabbit hole of entering a bunch of information, connecting to internet, etc, etc, and inevitably I wind up getting pulled in another direction on the set and never get through the process.-- Missing on-board battery plate. As much as I use the P-tap cable to power the 503, it would still be nice to have a built-in battery slot for the occasional gimbal work or when using a minimal camera rig. Not a huge issue (it can be bought separately), but would be nice.-- Price. While this a great quality monitor, the prices on these are still on the high side compared to other similar good monitors in the market.

Great Monitor, but 4 dead pixels after only 2 months of use...
I've been using this monitor for about 2 months. For the first time I cranked the brightness of the monitor when shooting outside and by the end of the day I had 4 dead pixels. Really bummed about this and they are very annoying to look at. Hopefully I can get a warranty replacement but it seems very common on all SmallHD monitors. ALL of our rental 7"'s had multiple dead pixels as well on the last show.
