Green Chile, MILD, Chopped Hatch Chile 10lbs. Frozen

I gave these to a New Mexico native for the holidays last year, These are very delicious NM chiles! I wasn't sure which heat level to order, so got the mild to be safe. Good move on my part, the mild has some kick! Obviously the thing to do is to defrost these enough to divide into smaller freezer portions. Another reviewer mentioned a lot of water in the bags. That is just a by-product of freezing vegetables. The cell walls break down from being frozen and release some water content. There is a lot of flavor in there, so use it (don't drain it)!We were having a warm spell in the northeast when these shipped, so I was a bit nervous. However, these chiles arrived in fine shape. It took I think 5 days to get here from NM. The chiles were packed with dry ice in a foam cooler taped shut within a cardboard box. The chiles were still frozen solid with a bit of ice left. The packaging was so effective (the only situation where I would accept styrofoam) that I kept the lot in the basement for the few days before Christmas, replenishing with ice packs once a day.We are still enjoying these chiles! The chiles are outstanding and the seller does a great job getting them to you!

Excellent chiles - the Hatch is a NM-grown Anaheim - and has a subtle and nearly citrusy taste when roasted. And Hatch is the gold standard for these. My wife, Rose, went to grad school in NM and a chance to eat her favourite - green chile enchiladas with blue corn tortillas is an easy way to make her day. The mild chiles are actually quite mild, although they vary by year and possibly by batch, and the mediums we've ordered are what I'd call hot (but not too hot) but too much so for Rose, so we mix them with the mild ones.They came packed in two 5lb packages, hard frozen and in great condition. We have no complaints about these tasty treats, and there is no comparison with canned chiles, even Hatch ones, as the can and preservative probably alter the taste too much. These are very fresh tasting chiles!It is a little vexing that they are essentially $9-10/lb, but apparently they are a monopoly of Hatch and neighboring farms and they see no need to make them cheaper. You can actually buy these in the cans for about the same price but, as previously mentioned, they are not nearly as good as the frozen. Here in the PNW some local grocers, like Freds, Whole Foods, Safeway(?) etc., will roast fresh Hatch chiles when they are in season, and you can have them for $2/lb - we might consider doing this in late summer and saving these pricey treats for mid-winter when we have exhausted our supplies.

I purchased two varieties and the mild seemed to have an inordinate amount of ice mixed with the chiles. Like an Italian ice with chiles added. It's expected that the water in the chiles would create ice but there seemed to be more than a pound of ice for every pound of chile. The Hot variety had less ice than the mild. Otherwise, a really fine product with excellent roasted chile flavor and I'm grateful for these.

This is a fantastic product for anyone who likes to enhance the flavor of just about any meal. It is great on eggs, dips, marinades, the list is endless. The greatest thing about this product next to the flavor is the convenience. They have saved me the time and expense of waiting for the Hatch season, going to the store, the mess of roasting and bagging the finished product. The package is delivered right to our door in an insulated container with ice. I simply divide up each of the bags into smaller portion and store in the freezer until the jar in the fridge is empty. I have given jars of the Hatch Chiles away as gifts with similar themed items and it's always a HIT! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who likes green chiles or to jazz up any dish.

This has the true New Mexico taste and just a hint of heat. If you are a fan then 10 pounds will go fast. After I open a bag I cook in mason jars to 165F and keep in the fridge.

I'm from New Mexico but now live in Florida, and to be able to order Hatch Green Chili from Amazon is awesome! Delicious!
