Rush 24 vs. Rush 12 (College Student's Perspective)
Rush 24 vs. Rush 12 (College Student's Perspective)Okay so I purchased both the Rush 24 (left) and Rush 12 (right) and compared how each backpack would hold up during the day.I commute 1 hour to my University and I have class from around 10am to 830pm.I carry the following with me;- 13in Macbook air / charger- 4 notebooks- 1 or 2 books- 2 meals from home in plastic tupperware- Calculator / pencils / pens- 2 bottles of tea in glass bottles I drink for health reasons- Flashlight / Paracord / Pocket knifeNow I did fit all that stuff in the Rush 12 besides the glass bottles, but it was extremely tight and I had no where to put my bottles which is an issue. It felt kind of strange on my back like it was almost too small and the rubber pads where rubbing on my back.I put all that in the in the Rush 24 and I had a decent amount of room left over, maybe for a sweater or something else along those lines. The 24 is NOT THAT BIG. It's kinda big, but not obnoxious. I saw other students around campus had even bigger backpacks... **The rush 12 would be a great school backpack if you lived on campus or didn't bring your own lunches from home.**Overall the build quality is great on both backpacks and seems like it will last a long time.Only reason I deducted a star for the Rush 12 is because it really isnt that big. My Girlfriends $20 Jansport backpack was about the same size

Great backpack
March 2014:Several folks have asked about the size and proportions of this backpack, I imagine because a handful of reviewers have stated the pack looks comically small on their frame. The dimensions are, very roughly, 12 inches in width and 18 inches in height. In terms of its scale, it is indistinguishable from any regular backpack you see on campus -- in fact, I have seen a number of these Rush 12's being worn by other students.December 2014:The backpack has survived three semesters and several road trips now with no visible wear or tear whatsoever. Zippers and stitching are still strong and intact, the bottom isn't stretching despite sometimes having to carry four or five thick textbooks and accompanying notebooks.April 2015:Over a year old, now, and the Rush 12 has survived day-to-day use without a single complaint. The backpack has endured everything from hauling textbooks and a change of clothes from one state to the next, to a weekend of rappelling. No tears, no zipper problems, it doesn't even get that dirty, somehow.June 2017:I've used this backpack practically every single day for the three years I've had it. No wear and tear to speak of. All of the original zippers are still in place and working perfectly fine, the mesh pockets are intact despite being regularly crammed with snaggy stuff like flashlights, car keys, etc. The top pocket is great for my wallet and flashlight. The lower pocket is perfect for a Kindle Paperwhite and a Cambridge Pitt Minion Bible. I think my favorite thing about the Rush 12 is the versatility that its size offers. I can carry a pack for a three day camp, I've carried everything from AR-15 lower and upper assemblies to Wide Margin Bibles in this thing. Well worth the purchase!July 2018:Well, I'm graduating next week which means this backpack has endured approximately four years of daily use. One of the zipper cords frayed off, which I replaced with a small loop of tygon tubing. The sun may have ever slightly bleached out the black in certain spots. Besides that, this backpack has endured a lot of abuse with very little wear and tear to show for. Next up: graduate school.July 2020:Nothing new to report. This backpack has continued to hold up, well into graduate school and even fatherhood. I recently puchased an MSI Laptop and sadly it will not fit inside my Rush 12. Since this product from 5.11 has served me so well, I'm going to be purchasing a Rush 24.

Hard use for man work.
I've been carrying the sandstone rush 12 for about 2 solid years now. Originally it was gonna be my super tactical badass get home from work survival bag. I worked in the ghetto and had all the stuff to Rambo myself home in the event of an emergency. I had survival food, G19 with mags, spare AR mags, Med kit, fire starting kit, para cord and all kinds of cool stuff. Well now I work where I can't carry a gun so I had to take out the gun stuff. I ate all the food because k was hungry one day. I slowly used up all the band aids and med supplies (I'm a machinist and cut myself a lot) so now it just holds my lunch and water bottle and random crap.So this thing gets drug around pretty hard every day. It travels in a van pool getting stomped on and drug around 100 miles a day and then it gets tossed around my work area all day and gets sprayed with machine coolant, s*** spilled on it, sharp pieces of metal dragged across it etc. After two solid years of this, it is still in great shape. It looks a little dingy but there is hardly any fraying of seams. All zippers are still perfect, all straps, clasps and buckles are still perfect.A lot of guys at work have the SOG knockoff pack from Walmart and they are all falling apart.Be tacticool. Get the RUSH 12

bitter-sweet
They are tons of reviews here saying great organisation and quality, which I agree with, and won't repeat. It was a lot smaller than I expect in terms of bag height, it doesnt cover much of your back, and sticks out quite a lot instead of traveling down. This results in back pain when the bag is fully filled.I found a youtube review saying the exact same thing, that when you do pack it with heavier stuff it will give you lower back pain because of the space/weight distribution on your upper back. What made my bag heavy? 800ml water bottle, 500ml coffee flask, 13 inch laptop, headphones, and some accessories/maybe food. So definitely not enough to warrant backpain in a normal backpack.I bought the rush 24 instead which I have found to be miles better. Perfect bag for me. 10 out of 5 stars. I prefer the extra organisational pockets, and it is also so much more comfortable and ergonomic. I've never loved a bag like I love that bag.I unfortunately waited too long before I realised it was the bag was giving me serious back pain, so I wasn't able to return it. Its comfortable when light, but I dont find myself using it often, I just go for the rush 24 instead. So it has been wasted money for me.When I'm going out for leisure and only need to take some accessories and medication, maybe headphones, I use the rush 12, but for that purpose it is actually often a bit too big, and my girlfriend often comments "why do you have such a big bag?" which I dont mind, but I wish I got the MOAB instead to use it as a day bag, as the rush 12 can be a bit too big to bring to a restaurant or a bar.Reviews say you also have to keep the MOAB light because of ergonomics, but since this is also the case for the rush 12, I think I would have benefitted more from the added functionality of being easily able to swing it around for easy access.Edit: over the next few months I decided to lower the amount of things I carried day to day in my backpack, by having a locker at uni and just carrying essentials with me. by using the rush 12 as a low weight backpack it was amazing, and very comfortable. You can also tighten the straps and then its also a great looking compact backpack. It became my daily bag again and I was very happy with its performance as a low weight easy backpack. So I will change my review from 3 to 5 star, however its important to acknowledge what you're going to be using the backpack before and to gauge your expectations for that.

Excellent
Really high quality stitching. It has a very authentic feel to it as you would expect military-style. Lots of compartments. The bag opens up completely which makes it much easier to pack like a suitcase. Compression straps to tighten it all up if you are not carrying a full bag. Web platform all over the bag for adding molle pouches. Nicely padded straps with quick release clips. Sternum strap can be removed or added again higher/ lower to suit a bigger or smaller frame. YKK zippers with cords make it effortless to open and close if wearing gloves. Armoured back plate that is removable if you don’t want it. I bought this for my adventures and for use on my motorcycle. I really cannot fault it. It terms of size it’s an average sized backpack for daily use but you can fit quite a surprising amount in this with the way it has been designed. Really high quality and thought packed into this bag.

Easily the best backpack I've ever owned
+ Easy to open and hard-wearing zip & toggles (glove friendly)+ TONS of pockets inside of varying sizes (inc passport, phone, and pen sized pockets)+ Convenient sunglasses pocket on the top (so all your stuff doesn't crush your glasses)+ Good sized laptop / tablet compartment (fits A4 with a little room to spare, tested with a 14" laptop & ipad pro)+ Product quality is simply superb, I can't fault it at all. I get the impression that I won't be buying another backpack for a while.+ Shoulder straps are thick, padded, and comfortable (I've had a 2 liter bottle in there, feels fine)The ONLY negative thing:- Price is quite high for a small travel backpackComes in a variety of colours/patterns, and even slightly bigger ones if you need it for hiking. Just pick the one that suits your needs.

Best thing I ever bought
Should of bought this years ago. It goes everywhere with me and have also got a water bladder attached to the dedicated compartment. Extremely well made and designed and the admin pouch is superb to hold pens, maps, mini-torches, Swiss Army knife, cable ties, glow sticks, etc. I also, have other 5.11 mini pouch that easily attaches to it to hold cameras, phones and radios. Nice sun glasses compartment too. The only downside I would like to have seen is the zip rings to be bigger to attached a padlock. When wearing it, it looks the business and you feel like a pro when it's kitted out especially attaching insignia to the velcro parts with name tags and flags. Very comfortable and I believe the English Royal Marine Commandos use them. You can't fail when it comes to 5.11 equipment.
