Rebirth: Poems (English and Persian Edition)

Great Iranian Poet!
These are beautiful poems written by an Iranian woman in the 1950s, when Iran was in a state of flux between the old and the new, between the influence of America and Europe and their own attempts to have a democratic government. That is the backdrop, but these are not political poems, They are poems of love and desire and the political is a subtext that runs through or alongside this work. I discovered her through the work of photographer and filmmaker Shirin Neshat, whom I love, and listed Farrokhzaad as an influence.

Poor print quality in Farsi section
Confirming that print quality in Farsi section is very bad.

Life of people and specially women in iranian culture.
Simple but filled with passion. She lived a harsh life as a woman in a strict social atmosphere of Iran from the 40's through the 60's. She became a true vision of a woman who was seeking recognition of her true life and experiences rather than mere image: "and this is me, a lonely woman at the threshold of a cold season" Here she crys of forces created by tridition, and: "where have i come from? where have i come from? that so filled with the night fragrance?" night has been always refered to despotic regime. This book is not the best translation but the only one available in this form, and that is the reason for four star. I think the translator did not do much justice to her emotions but rather her logic. It was for most part literally translated. knowing forough is to undrestand the wanted image of women in a man's society without her knowledge of feminism.

Not really dual language - low quality print
Bought this for Iranian wife - she was very disappointed with the Farsi part - poor archaic font choice and small print - so really tough to read and no illustrations in that section. Basically this is an English version with an illegible Farsi section shoved in to waste pages and make the book seem bigger than it is.
