I have yet to find any book written in English that can replace the exhaustive scientific information available on essential oils in this one. The size of this book may prove formidable to some. If you hated chemistry in school, you may find the scientific chapters breaking down each essential oil's properties tedious. However, the writer is a talented educator and interjects not only appropriate humor but fascinating lore into every paragraph. There are basic chapters on techniques and useage of essential oils, primarily in theory form, but not "recipes" or treatments for specific ailments. The book is prefaced by thorough reviews of most of the competently written, available books on the subject. I would have preferred this material at the back of the book as reference material in order to jump right into the subject. You may wish to take note of that fact and move past those reviews initially. Anyone who intends a thorough understanding of essential oils and essential oil useage MUST read this book as it is a virtual college education on the subject in a manual. Laymen practitioners should read, own and periodically review this book to remain competent in practice. This book is the Merck manual PLUS of Essential Oils, IMHO.

Love everything about this book. Dr David a Stewart is one of my most FAVE teachers/writers and Dr. This book is filled w biblical content, tables & more!! Be sure to watch the doctors lectures and videos on You Tube. His teaching on essentials oils is really the best.

Using Young Living essential oils for many years, it's good to know some of the history and chemistry behind these precious healing oils. Dr David Stewart was a very wise and knowledgeable man in this subject. A friend of mine was lucky enough to meet him at a YL convention.

Having already read Essential Oils Desk Reference, I was ready for more in-depth information on how essential oils work. I found it in this amazing work by David Stewart, and it was totally entertaining and educating at the same time. I had some good Chemistry background, but he explained things so well, that one needn't have that as a pre-requisite. His perspective was one that I share, which is an understanding that God created all things, and with science, we are using only one of the tools that we have available to us to find out how natural laws work.I couldn't recommend this book more highly. If you are going to use essential oils (and I urge you to if you are not already!), this is an absolute must-read. You will come away with both your faith and your knowledge increased. Thank you Dr. Stewart!

Interesting book. I bought one for my girlfriend...she does not care for it and refuses to read it due to.... at like page 725 ??? where author tells us about experiments he has done with plants but.... when others, students, do the same experiments, exactly the same way, they get different results than he. He claims the reason is due to ----he is spiritual and others are not. Also, he also claims that plants react to violence...IOW. he states that plants who have been "there" when let's say a murder has been committed, the plant can react to the murderer and only the guilty person when several people walk by that plant. Again, very interesting concept. He tried to convince law enforcement about this but no one would believe him.

This reference is thorough and wonderful! All the chemistry is easily understandable, and the charts and graphs on essential oils from young living are worth the price of the book alone, not to mention the approach the author takes to teaching basic chemistry (easy to follow, especially for non-students).I can't describe enough the value of this book, it is far beyond it's purchase price, and amazon offers a great deal too! This book is so great, it's inspired me to teach a class locally about the chemistry and therapeutic benefits of young living essential oils! Way to go Dr. Stewart!Absolutely Awesome! And of course, the Maker of Heaven and Earth's creation is what the book is all about, so how can you go wrong?

Chemistry was never my thing when I was in school. I was always scared of it, now I know why. It depends who is teaching it. I am passionate about the essential oils and I always wanted to understand their qualities at a deeper level. This book got my attention based on the reviews I read. It is far from boring! The author provides in depth knowledge on oils and their properties. I find it very educational and engaging. I also connect deeply to the content of the book from the spiritual perspective. I highly recommend this book for all who is passionate about the essential oils. The book was delivered promptly and in an excellent condition.

I thought I would be put off by the religious aspect, but I wasn't; it doesn't intrude in a bible-bashing kind of way, at all. This is an excellent book, full of integrity. Being a person who was scared of chemistry, having never done it at school, I am finding it really gripping now! The pace is just right. There's a lot of info about essential oils and their quality and a useful critique of the available aromatherapy books. The author has his own opinions and is not afraid to share them. This is more a book geared to the French school of aromatherapy, where oils are taken internally and in other ways, and not to the British 'massage model.' Stewart does a lot to dispel the fears that essential oils are dangerous beasts that need taming ... he is not a fan of Tisserand's book on Essential Oil Safety, for example. But I found his reasoning to be different and sound and certainly worth a look. And then, there's that chemistry! It's a big book with clear large print, making it easy to read. Recommended.
