Very nice high resolution display with lots of features
I am using this display with a Microchip PIC16F1619 using I2C. The first thing you notice is that when power is supplied it lights up with colors and status information. That is better than other I2C displays I have used that remain dark until you send it a command to turn on.Be sure to download the Digole_Serial_Display_Adapter-Manual that contains all the information you will need to operate this display. The English is not very good but it is decipherable if you are familiar with programming such devices.I have written to the display using text and rectangles as can be seen in the photo. It is bright and easily read in full sunlight. It draws about 150mA with the brightness turned to 100% and proportionally less as you turn down the brightness. One negative is that there is no fixed with font among its installed fonts. I ended up using a font for my first line that happened to have fixed width numbers and an underline character of the same width. Supposedly you can install your own fonts but I am very short on code space in my PIC application and cannot afford to store the font before uploading it to the display.I have also tried the touchscreen commands and they seem to work. I had to used the "RPNXYI" command that does not block waiting on the touch and instead returns an invalid coordinate when no touch has happened. The EEPROM works as well and I use it to store calibration information. There are 2 things to be aware of though to get this to work. When reading the EEPROM with "RDEP" you need to check for completion status in a loop with a delay (I use 10ms) until the status changes to complete. The Arduino library may do this but I coded my own native routines. The other thing is that there appears to be a bug in the "WREP" command to write to the EEPROM. I had to add 1 to the address when writing to read the information back out with "RDEP" at the same address (without adding 1). Btw I contacted the company about this bug and even after numerous emails the developer denied there is a bug. Just be aware that you may have to adjust for this.Overall I am very pleased with this product. I have had it for about a month now and just ordered a second one. I'll update this review as I discover more things about it.Update:I have installed the second display and it performs just as well as the first. I am also using a faster pic and found I had to add a short delay during initialization before sending display commands. Otherwise it would ignore them.
