Disappointed, not real leather

I bought these sandals back in April thinking I would get to enjoy them for many years to come, but I was wrong. After a long and blister ridden break-in period (it pinches you right where the strap meets the inside arch until the cork wears down), my sandals started to crack apart. At the base of my big toe, the cork has completely torn from the birko pad down to the rubber sole. Mind you, these were not even my primary shoe for the four months that it took to ruin them and the soles are still looking new. I reached out to Birkenstock and they told me that they are only designed to last for a "year or two" and that I seem to have worn the life out of them in a few months time. I came in thinking this was some buy-it-for-life type shoe backed by a company guarantee, but I couldn't be more wrong. I won't be buying again from them, especially after getting such a cold response from their customer service
