Possibly the Most Important JFK Assassination Documentary Ever Made
Produced and directed by Oliver Stone as a coda to his epic and hugely influential 1991 movie *JFK,* which told the story of the JFK assassination through the lens of New Orleans DA Jim Garrison's 1965-1969 prosecution of New Orleans businessman Clay Shaw as an alleged CIA asset and conspirator in the assassination, this documentary examines the JFK assassination in the light of new evidence made public in the 30 years since the release of the film by the Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB) as a result of the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992 (or JFK Records Act). The JFK Records Act itself was a direct result of the public's demand for answers as a result of Stone's historic film. The relevant portions of several of these now-declassified documents are shown and cited verbatim in the film/miniseries.This Blu-Ray collection by Shout! Factory contains the 4 episode original miniseries and the edited 2 hour American release--with commentary on the 2 hour version by Stone and script-writer James DiEugenio, an expert on the JFK assassination who has authored several important books on the case (one with Lisa Pease, who appears in the film as one of several talking heads). Both are excellent however I prefer the extended miniseries as it contains much more material that had to be edited out of the feature.Anyone who still believes that the Warren Commission is the final word on the JFK assassination owes it to themselves (and an honest pursuit of the truth) to watch this film (as a matter of fact, the final word is actually the House Select Committee on Assassinations, which in 1978-1979 concluded that Kennedy was killed as the result of a conspiracy.). No one who views this film or the extended series with an open mind can come away from such a viewing with the belief that Oswald was the “lone nut” assassin.Assassination authorities such as assassination medical expert and author Dr. Gary Aguilar, JFK Lancer publisher Deborah Conway, author Barry Ernest, medical expert and author Dr. David Mantik, journalist and author Jefferson Morley, author and former *Probe* magazine co-editor Lisa Pease, author David Talbot and noted pathologist and author Dr. Cyril Wecht, as well as others, are interviewed extensively throughout the film. Assassination gurus Robert Groden and Vincent Palamara among others served as advisors and consultants. Interviews with Robert Kennedy, Jr., son of late Senator Robert F. Kennedy, are also featured, focusing in part on the disbelief of the Warren Commission’s conclusions harbored by his father which may have contributed to Senator Kennedy’s 1968 assassination. The film and series, narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, Donald Sutherland (who played "X" in *JFK*) and (in various parts) Stone himself, but especially the four-part miniseries, do a great job of setting out the insurmountable problems in the Warren Commission's 1964 case against Oswald, particularly concerning the chain of evidence of CE 399 (the so-called "magic bullet"); the discrepancies in the wounds as described on November 22, 1963 by the Parkland Hospital ER trauma surgeons (an entrance wound in the throat, and the right rear portion of the President's head blown off indicating that the fatal shot came from the front) and the wounds as depicted in the later, official autopsy photos (which showed wounds inflicted from behind the President); and the timeline of events immediately after the shooting which made it impossible for Oswald to have been on the sixth floor of the TSBD at the time of the shooting. No trial judge in America would allow that kind of flimsy, shoddy, questionable evidence into his or her court today. But the Warren Commission’s mandate was to demonstrate Oswald’s guilt thus didn’t inquire too closely into such issues which could upset their predetermined conclusion. The Film and extended series also do a great job of connecting the dots and showing the role of the CIA in the President's assassination. No one who watches the film or extended series can easily dismiss the veritable mountain of evidence pointing to Lee Harvey Oswald's being a covert CIA asset. As the film notes, we certainly know now that Clay Shaw both was a CIA asset AND used the alias "Clay Bertrand." It seems that Jim Garrison was right after all. Finally, the film and extended series set the JFK assassination into the wider context of the 1960s, showing how President Kennedy's death negatively impacted US foreign policy in, not just Vietnam but also the Congo, Laos, and Indonesia.Kudos to producer/director Oliver Stone and writer James DiEugenio for a great documentary film and extended series. Kudos also to Shout! Factory for releasing such a nice Blu-Ray set in the US when no one else would touch it.More special features than just the commentary on the feature would’ve been nice however the length of the extended miniseries with additional material essentially makes up for that. While perhaps not as momentous as the film *JFK,* nevertheless this film/miniseries may just be the most important documentary on the JFK assassination ever produced (and there are some good ones out there.).Any serious Warren Commission critic needs to have this Blu-Ray set in your collection. Anyone want to send one to ABC, CBS, NBC and Gerald Posner? This is one I'll be watching again.

The documentary is a must see
After waiting for a long time to get the opportunity to buy this DVD in the Netherlands, I decided not to wait any longer. It seems to be that it's very difficult to buy it elsewhere in Europe too. So I tried it from the USA.Delivery was quick so that was nice, but when I tried to play it I got the command "NOT PLAYABLE IN THIS REGION'. So buyers in Europe have to take care and buy the one for REGION B or REGION 2! Unfortunately this was.not mentioned in the description. Amazon gave my money back (nice!) and now I have to look forward to get a DVD which will work for Europe.

very informative and interesting
I much prefer the 4 hour version. It is broken into one hour segments so it needent be watched all at once. I read critiques of the 2 hour version not having devoted enough time to everything, this remedies that issue. For Stone haters, among his first lines is: Don't trust or use any one source, including this film. Fair enough. The more you explore and learn, the clearer it becomes: You can't trust the Government. JFK's murder and the ensuing events prove the fix was in and it was continued by others not directly involved for their own various motives. IT REALLY WAS AND IS THE DEATH OF TRUTH, one mans's opinion here. If this movie doesn't anger you, I really don't understand at all, whatever your political bent. Worth the time. After watching, Read Crossfire the plot that killed Kennedy. Thanks for reading!

Great Compilation
Great job by Oliver Stone and James DiEugenio in compiling the most pertinent information on the JFK assassination, including the document and information since his 1991 movie. James' book has even more information that didn't make it into the film. Well done by these men.

Why Whoopi as moderator?
Very interesting that Whoopi was chosen to do much of the moderation! Also interesting that all of the Zapruder footage was focused on JFK, not showing the actions of the driver (William Greer). Greer was turned back looking at Kennedy, with something obvious (although not clear) in his left hand.

This is Oliver Stone's genius explanation of JFK's murder
For anyone who wants the answer closest to the truth about JFK's tragic killing this is a remarkable work by Oliver Stone. It finishes the analysis begun in Stone's 1991 JFK movie. His analysis effectively eliminates the explanation of the lone assassin and effectively rules out Lee Oswald as having any role in shooting JFK. Inevitably Stone is unable to identify the actual killers, whose identities may never be known. For those people who are haunted by the JFK murder this is as much of an answer as you will receive in this lifetime. Who pulled the triggers is never identified, but the how and why are discussed. A reasonable student of the murder would probably conclude that Oswald's statement that he "didn't shoot anybody" is very likely true.

It's factual.
What I like best about this documentary is how the interviewees comments are backed up by documents and those documents are shown to the viewer.

It's facts (no longer a conspiracy)
Author, David Talbot, perfectly summed it towards the end of main title "Through the looking glass", that 'There is a direct threat between the events of 1963 and the kind of horror show America is having to endure right now'.This documentary indirectly clarifies a lot of the madness on America's current foreign policy especially on communism, Vietnam war, civil rights, Bush era on Middle East, the contra gate, the nuclear arms race and the great shame unfortunately that still reverberates today with the assassination of Kennedys. Even to this day the continued apprehension for full release and continued redaction of the assassination and investigation records sums the mistrust of the government.I could only imagine the extent of the meaning 'True Global Power' which America could have aspired if John Kennedy (including Robert Kennedy) were allowed to fulfil their progressive, democratic policies and their legacy on current generation.
