will these fit an GXT1000

Yes they are the original equipment type batteries for the GXT1000. Be careful if/when ordering through Amazon, or elsewhere, of SOME of the imitation lower cost batteries that just do not provide the same level of performance as those original. There are some third party brands that ARE O.K., do not let the lowest cost offerings be your final choice.

How long can I keep these batteries on the shelf ? How long are they good for?

I had them for over 6 months in the orgnal packing and they still worked good

I don't know about the VP part, but I have a HH54 radio that these batteries fit in and function with very well...
