Q: What time of year do I put this out?

Depends on where you live. I live in Southern California and I have hummingbirds all year long so I leave the nesting material out all year. Places that only get hummingbirds in the spring should put it out before the birds come back... depending on your weather I'd say March or April. You need to do some research online about the habits of the birds in the area where you live.

Q: How much do you get? Will it fit in a regular suet holder?

It comes in a package approximately 9X13. I cut mine to fix in a suet holder. I also added bright duct tape to attract the birds.

Q: Does this really include the cage? Only the refill is pictured. Update: I contacted the company, and it is just the refill. They are looking into changing the title.

The description is Songbird Essentials SE 7018 Hummer Helper Cage AND Nesting Material Refill. This is not merely misleading, it is not true. I ordered 3 for gifts and sent them back because no cages were included even though it clearly states that they are part of the order. How about an accurate description of this item? Contrary to the description this is only the refill not the cage.

Q: Is this cotton organic / pesticide free?

Don’t know, but I have put this up for 3 yrs now and the humming birds and Finches love it, they make nests every year with this
