I've used Trion Air Bear MERV 8 filters without problems for many years, but I decided to try a MERV 13 filter in my 2017 American Standard gas heat, electric air conditioning HVAC system. These can trap a much larger percentage of smaller particles, such as smoke, and just maybe, bacteria and viruses.I expected MERV 13 filters to cost more than MERV 8 and MERV 11. They may also need more frequent changes.In my system, these filters slide into a Trion Air Bear housing which can also accept an electronic air cleaner. The housing is about 24 years old.I found that the Trion Air Bear Filters were only available in quantities of 1 or 3. I didn't want to buy too many new filters for my test, and found that Filterbuy offers a two-pack of MERV 13 filters for $32.50 each, which was a decent compromise between quantity and price for my test.The Filterbuy quality and construction seems comparable to the Trion Air Bear filters I'm used to. They have the same number of pleats in the filter material, and the cardboard construction is similar.I did notice a difference in the published filter dimensions, with the Filterbuy being slightly smaller, as follows:Nominal size: 25 x 20 x 5"Trion Air Bear: 24.25” x 19.75” x 4.875”Filterbuy: 24.13" x 19.63" x 4.88"In fact, I did notice that the Filterbuy slid into the slot more easily, and was not as "snug" as the Trion Air Bear. The Filterbuy had a tiny bit of additional "play" within the housing. I finally decided that the Filterbuy seal was acceptable, but I admit that the Trion Air Bear provides a little more confidence that nothing is getting around the filter. Filterbuy probably did this for a reason, and hopefully decided that they could ease installation without impairing filter performance.I also measured the heated air temperature with the old MERV 8 and the new MERV 13. Restrictions in air flow should cause a higher temperature because the air spends more time in contact with the heat exchanger. The measurement was made just downstream of the heat exchanger, and results were the same for both types of filter. Casual checks of air flow at various registers in the house were also made, and I could not notice any difference.I'm satisfied with the switch from MERV 8 to MERV 13, and with the Filterbuy MERV 13 filters.

Overall I'm satisfied with the filters and how quickly they can ship them to your home.Just as a rule, you should always check the phisical size of the filter you received and compare to your old one, before unpacking it. Just because you ordered a few months back a MERV 8 and now you ordered MERV 11 or 13 for the spring/summer months, does not mean the size will be the same. Also check if the gaskets on the top and bottom are installed or missing, this is another thing that will show if it's the wrong size. Overall it's inconvenient and a bit frustrating to find that the filters don't fit after you have unpacked them and written the install date on them.To the seller:You have to improve your quality control on this. Perhaps use different color for labels for each size or make a geometry symbol that represents the correct size to eliminate this issue.

Good price for odd size

Sizes are never 20"x25"x5". They are as low as 3.8" and not 5" from most of the manufacturers. That makes no sense. These are great filters at a fair price. They will not fit the slot because they have the great feature of foam on the edge to block more particles going around the edges. 20"x25"x5" should fit but they don't fit my Lennox furnace. I will reorder from this store on Amazon again and get the right size. They were very good about a refund. Thank you for making that process simple.

These are very good filters and are a fraction of the cost as buying the name brand filters, and they work just as well.

For years we have purchased Merv 11 filters, online, from a non-Amazon vendor and have been extremely satisfied for both our home furnaces. But, they do not yet carry a Merv 13 filter so we decided to try this product and vendor.Products were received quickly via FedEx and packaged wellMy concern is the product construction. The outer support casing is much thinner and weaker than the previous product used. By that, I mean when you take it out of the box and handle it, it kinda looses rigidity; flimsy like thinner one inch filtersAnd, forget trying to install it with the furnace on because the filter will come apart or maybe tear!!!As for the difference between Merv 11 (we had) and this Merv 13, purchased, in all honesty, I could NOT see any physical difference! My old filter actually look like it would capture more filtering than this productSo, hence, the one star ratingWe’re not pausing the furnace to install a flimsy filterAnd, one that may be cheaper in cost but unproven in qualitySorry, but my suggestion is poor quality construction productsOur furnace is 2015; I’d imagine a new furnace would tear this apart; or rather flatten it with airflow pressure

This product is structural very poor. When attempting to insert the filter into the filter housing on my furnace, the filter collapse as the "cardboard" is extremely thin compared to the General-Air filter which was currently housed in the unit. The reason I bought the Filterbuy was the 13 MERV rating compared to the General-Air 11 MERV, I would not recommend this filter.
