The Monroes: The Complete Series

It’s a great tv series of the sixties
I remembered watching this show when I was a little girl. But I must say, when I asked people if they ever watched the Monroe’s. Not one person has ever heard of the show. I’m happy I ordered it. My husband and I really enjoyed the show. If you really want to see a great show for family, this is it. It has 6 DVD, total of 26 episodes.

Lost sixties gem complete at last.
I remember watching this series as child in the sixties and loving it.As far as I can remember,it was only shown once and then never repeated.over the years bootleg copies have been available on the internet.I made the mistake of buying a set once. The seller said that the picture quality was 8.5 out of 10.i found most of the discs unwatchable. They were copies of copies of copies, showing picture fuzzing and deterioration. To add insult to injury, the series was not complete. There were a number of lost episodes that were apparently gone forever.this series is complete with every episode.the picture quality, though not high def is certainly very watchable and far better than the unofficial copies that are circulating on the internet. This series is great family entertainment and visually stunning, with a tremendous gallery of famous then and soon to be famous guest stars.Time has not diminished the quality or impact of this series as we share the joys and trials of the Monroe children.

Great wholesome tv show
Watched this as a very young child loved it then and now. I had a lunchbox with the Monroe family on it. Be aware the viewing quality is lacking, some nighttime scenes u cannot see anything. Huge plus that I can comfortably watch this with anyone! No cursing no sexual content!!

LOVE this series!!!
We LOVE this series! Wish they would make movies as good as this today. On the way out to homestead in WY the parents drown in the Snake river, leaving 5 kids orphans. The oldest protective brother takes charge and keeps going. The next oldest sister Katherine "Kat" takes on the role as mother. I love the relationship between siblings and how they call the twin boys "big twin" and "little twin" and cute little Amy. They are helped by a friendly and protective Indian named Jim.Interesting neighbors and many adventures keep the whole family entertained. Highly Recommended!

Barbara Hershey stars!
This unedited western aired during the 1966-67 season. Barbara Hershey stars and guest stars include Dan Duryea, James Brolin, Ron Howard (and his family), Dub Taylor and his son Buck Taylor in a couple episodes. Each episode is approximately 51 minutes and includes the title card The Monroe's In Color. There are no special features. The episodes need to be cleaned up and restored. This series would like fantastic as it was filmed on location, for much of it, in the Grand Tetons. The parents of two young adults, twins, and a little girl are drowned while crossing a river while pioneering to Wyoming Territory. The oldest son and daughter decide to stick it out and build a cabin and struggle to survive. They are befriended by Major Mapoy and an Indian that help them from scheming neighbors and other travelers trying to interfere with their lives. This is a family show but there is one episode where a bloody corpse is shown which was shocking for 1960s television. Like other westerns of the time there are comedic episodes and more dramatic ones. There are many with various cougars stalking the landscape. They adopt a cougar cub which often chases or gets chased by their big white dog.

Good old fashioned family entertainment
This is an American TV series I vaguely remember enjoying when I was 8/9 years old. It was a time when there were many Western series on TV but I was particularly fond of this one. Watching it over fifty years later I can see why. It's about a family of seven moving west to Wyoming, but the parents are killed during a river crossing, leaving the older son and daughter to complete the journey and raise the others under trying conditions. They encounter many problems but also make plenty of friends and allies. My own fond recollections warmed me to it, but it is very watchable and is good of its kind for the time (1966/67). I didn't remember many details but I could recall wanting to be one of the twins, who were a little older than me at the time. The oldest boy Clayt was played by Michael Anderson Jr and I accepted him at the time as a clean-cut all-American boy, not realising that he was actually from Harpenden. Barbara Hershey played his sister. There are scenes shot outside the cabin where the very sound screams 'studio', but it doesn't really distract from this gentle family drama. There is very little in it to offend a modern audience, except possibly for the attitudes to Native Americans - and even that was probably enlightened for the time.
