AMES 2917200 Saw-Tooth Border Edger with T-Grip, 39-Inch

I like this tool because it's all one piece, and it's metal, so I know it will hold up. Also because it does a good job. The teeth cut through my lawn and crab grass, no problem. I can put all my weight on either side of the handle to really get it all the way into the soil. It makes a deep enough groove that I could get the lawn edging I was putting started before I pounded it deep down into the soil.

11-3-24 Update**** I am now completely grass free. I used this spade to lift and remove my entire gigantic front lawn and replaced it with useful flowers and natives for the pollinators. this is so much better and easier than using a shovel. You get a straight and uniform cut wherever you want. I do a lot of gardening, so I got this to make straight edge lines and borders. Use it with the “Ames” on the pole, pointing away from you, step on the spade, and rock back-and-forth/side to side. I used it for my last project which was lifting about 90 feet X 2 feet of turf. I just made my cuts with this, (which is the fun part) rocked it back-and-forth and then flipped it out and over easily. I tried it both with very dry lawn before it rained, and then a day after it rained. both were easy, just slightly better the day after it rained. I love how it makes a uniform depth cut . I wish I would have bought this a long time ago. Very sturdy and well made, not heavy.

This is a great product for the price. We use it for cutting into sod to make walkways and circles around trees for mulch to give a flush look. Plenty of depth on the blade to cut sod, the serrated teeth cuts through the grass roots and small tree roots easily. I was originally using a shovel, but this works much quicker and cuts the roots easier. Foot pressure is enough for me to cut the sod, the T-handle would be used if you needed more leverage to push down through the lawn. The T-handle also reduces hand blisters vs using a regular shovel. Is a good tool to have in the shed for landscape work.

A simple tool made right. The edger is serrated and sharp out of the box. It has been a pleasure to use. I have used it in mulch beds where I dont want string trimmer cast off in the beds. It cuts a nice clean and deep edge with little effort. Wet soil (the clay we have anyway) will stick to it but a couple of side to side rocking motions gets it out clean(ish). The edging chore is never much fun, but if you need a manual means this beats using a flat shovel every time.

It’s an excellent tool for starting an edge. When using the tool make sure that the soil is moist. It is not meant to go straight down, you have to start on one edge and roll it. It worked great. On a side note, it looks like a cool weapon !

Very hard to cut through grass especially when it’s the creeping kind ! Naturally I waited too long to send it back ! Still got the plastic on the handle ! If you have regular grass maybe it will cut .
