Leif Eriksson: Viking Explorer of the New World (Great Explorers of the World) Library Binding – Illustrated, January 16, 2009

My third grader needed to do a report on an explorer and chose Leif Eriksson. (due to a recent fictional read on Vikings) There is some mixed information out there on this guy, a lot to plow through on the internet if you are a 9 year old boy. Our small town library had nothing for us so I decided to order something for him. This book was perfect for the advertised age group. Easy to read without being too watered down in factual information. Yet, you didn't feel like you were stuck with way more information than what you were interested in. It is very updated info, from what I can tell, the author did an excellent job researching the book. I certainly learned some new things about Leif Eriksson. There were nice pictures, maps, and a couple of timelines. The book discussed Eriksson's family roots as well as some interesting facts about Vikings, to include their greatest contributions to history. The book wraps up with a chapter about the recognition of Eriksson's accomplishments. My son now wants the commemorative Leif Eriksson coin that was pictured in this final chapter. My little guy is pretty happy with all his new knowledge on Leif Eriksson and the Vikings. I'll probably end up donating this to our library so some other child has the pleasure of such finely put together historical information.
