-58F~1382F Digital Thermometer with K probe

I use this thermometer with a K type thermocouple to measure roasting temperatures in a Behmor coffee roaster. It has been extremely accurate and has allowed me to record exact roasting temperatures and profiles.

This thermometer comes with an instruction manual and an exposed bead thermocouple. At this price point it is, in my opinion, about as good as it gets. The accompanying thermocouple is good for making air temperature readings. Because the thermometer accepts standard K type thermocouple, there are many options for measuring much higher temps than can be read with a consumer type thermometer.This is not, however, really lab equipment. There is no way to calibrate the device that I can ascertain. It is not in the manual, and internet searching doesn't turn anything up. This model, MS6500, is sold in various places under different brand names. This one on Amazon is the lowest price I've seen, I believe I paid twice as much and I was pleased with it. I have used it for roasting coffee and to measure room temp changes. Very precise measurement is not important there, but I wouldn't want to use this to measure something very critical. Different thermocouples give different readings and with no way to calibrate to a known temp, this thermometer is limited in accuracy.
