8 pans of Sennelier artist grade water colour in a very compact metal tin
This is a very cute and compact tin box of 8 half pans of Sennelier artist grade water colour. The paint is contained in indentations in a plastic tray, there are no actual pans. The lid has a large transparent window, there is no inner flap and thus there is nowhere to mix - a pallete will be required. It's all squeezed into the smallest possible space and wet paint has a tendency to over-spill into adjacent colours. The supplied brush is tiny. You get one yellow, one red, two blues, two greens, burnt umber and Paynes Grey. An additional red instead of Paynes Grey would have been a better option, perhaps, but is probably asking too much at this price. Overall this little set undoubtedly represents excellent value for money considering it offers Sennelier's superb artist grade paint. I guess it must be a loss-leader - the outstanding quality of this small selection of artist grade colours is sure to generate interest in larger Sennelier sets. It's a bargain at this price.

Beautiful mini set - delighted
Ok I am an amateur painter and have only ever used W& new student quality but wanted to see what better paints there were available. this very quick test was done on hobbycraft cartridge paper so not good quality (as it’s a sketchbook) hiwever all that said - already I can see the quality shining through! I agree with other reviewers that it looks much like a kids pint tin when it arrives! ... looking like very basic colours, but that is simply not the case. A decent range of colours (possibly only missing a pink or pinky red? Maybe a lemon yellow?) The pales on my test are when I went in with a wet brush (very quickly) after it had dried and I was surprised how easily the colour lifted - really pleased. I’ve just started doing the mixes and the yellow mixes are gorgeous. Even the red ones have Created some nice mixes. I haven’t had time to do the others yet. I am looking forward to using this on my next painting holiday. I am also pleased there is no white or black as those never get used. I may do what another reviewer did and ditch the plastic tray as it does take up a lot of room - that’s my only grumble - that there’s no space for mixing (which on such a mini paint tin, I realise is ridiculous), but the plastic tray (containing the pans) takes up a lot of unnecessary room (the height of it particularly) and, had this been better designed, they could have definitely fitted a shallow mix tray in the lid! :-) But I am more than pleased with this item. Best £15 spent this year... Get one!

Great for outdoor painting
We sometimes go urban sketching and this is great for just adding a quick bit of colour, as i don't like hulky things. Small enough to pop in your bag with a sketch pad and small container of water.Quality paints. Not much space to mix colours, but I just take a bit of tin foil to mix on, problem solved.

Portable and vibrant basic palette
Most of the paints are vibrant and high quality, although the burnt umber and cerulean are pale and not what I expected. The brush is fantastic! Great for detailed work. A good kit to sample professional grade watercolour. It convinced me to invest in more higher grade watercolours.

Great paints, awful tin!
The actual paints themselves are beautiful especially for the price. If I’m being picky it would of been better to have a Payne’s Gray than black but again it is a value set. The tin however is HORRIBLE! I will be putting them into a better case as soon as possible. I still think it is worth the money though especially for beginners to try out an easily portable set.

Craftelier - Sennelier paints
Craftelier Was the vendor and they were first class. Great paints, delivered ahead of schedule, well packed. Can’t fault them.Sennelier paints are a premier artist-quality watercolour brand and they don’t disappoint. The travel set is light and compact, 8 colours that are very useful and have a nice “glow”. Limited palette goes with the territory of travel sets but the colours mix well to give a lot of nice combinations. Well pleased.

Really impressed
I bought these to take on an upcoming trip. They are so cute, there aren't many colours but the colours you do get are great and many more can be mixed. Although I am going to buy a separate travel mixing pallette. I've made my own little swatch card to pop in the lid, it would have been nice if there was one in there for you to fill in as some paint trays do provide this for you (saves drawing the template etc) it's the first time I've used this brand, I usually paint with Windsor and Newton and so far these feel lovely. I look forward to exploring with them.

great starter with artist quality paint
Artist quality paints at an affordable price, beginners can also start with something good! I bought this to take pleinair sketching, I needed a small metal tin which will attach to my magnetic sketching easel (thats another story) and I always use artist quality paint.I have removed pans from the plastic holder and put them in empty half pans,(you can buy a set for a few £) and with the extra space am adding a little reservoir for mixing in (white plastic bottle lid)brush a bit too short handled for beginners but can be extended with a straw. handy to fit in the tin, though.

Beautiful watercolor
Previously I have used acrylic, but I love watercolor and bought this tiny set after my kids used what little watercolor I had on hand. I'm so glad I did. It is rich color, but blends out sheer no problem. Not chalky, blends beautifully. I bought for hobby, but having g a hard time pulling myself away. I only wish I had bought more hues.

I have been looking to upgrade to better quality water colours for awhile and have been doing ...
I have been looking to upgrade to better quality water colours for awhile and have been doing some pretty rigourous research. I finally narrowed it down to three brands - Sennelier, Daniel Smith and Schmincke. I wanted a pan set as it's just easier for me to work with. So that ruled out Daniel Smith for the time being. The Schmincke are way too expensive for me. So that left the Sennelier. I read everything I could find on the Sennelier paints from reviews to technical details. I was impressed with everything I read from how the paints are made to how exquisitely they layer. However, before investing in the larger paint sets of 24 or 48 colours, I wanted to try the paints out first. No one from.my art class had a set that I could look at. They mostly stick to winsor newton because it's easier to source the brand from a local shop here. So this little Sennelier set was the perfect palette to experiment with. The colours are rich but not too opaque thankfully. The paint flows beautifully and blends like a dream. As other reviewers have said on many other sites, a little really does go a long way. My washes have never looked so wonderful. I love these paints. But note that I have only ever used student grade watercolour so maybe all I'm noticing is the difference in quality. Others who have used artist grade paints would be better equipped to judge whether or not these really hold their own.The brush is a rigger and really quite good, but it's tiny and your hand will cramp within 5 minutes of using it. My hands are really small and they still hurt. The box itself is really compact, a little thicker than a stack of playing cards, but ten times lighter. You won't even notice the weight if you're holding it for a long time. The palette that the paints sit in is just a little better than flimsy and I feel like it could deteriorate give enough time in the humid climate that I live in. Overall, I am very happy I bought this and will definitely be buying one of the larger sets.
