Not worth the hassle
Maybe it was operator error, but I had major issues with this product. Once installed, running water to soak the pads caused parts of the straw to come off the pads and end up in the water basin. Those straw pieces then clogged the motor and hoses, stopping water flow and creating a much larger problem for me to fix. I do not plan to use straw-based pads in my swamp cooler ever again.
