Panasonic Lumix GX7 and GM1: From Snapshots to Great Shots

Well written. Knight takes the reader through the menu of both cameras and shows his recommended settings for taking advantage of the advanced features in them. The book has numerous photo illustrations that include the proper way to hold the camera as well as the types of photography. He spends time on the basics (iso, shutter speed, and aperture), and how they affect the photo. The concepts in the book are general enough that they can be applied to most mirrorless cameras.

I purchased this book even though my camera is an Olympus. I like the way the book is organized and the way the topics are covered. I have enough camera experience to translate the various Lumix menu and shooting modes into the equivalent Olympus functions. If you own a Lumix GX7 (or are considering purchasing one), I think you will find this book very helpful.

I had the opportunity to go on a photo excursion with the author Rob Knight. The knowledge & creativity he shared in person are reflected in the book. This was a brand new camera system for me as I had switched from Canon. I now own the Panasonic LUMIX GX 7. The owner's manual that came with the camera was essential for all the technical information. This book goes a step beyond & addresses creativity as well. The book had excellent photos to illustrate his points & was well organized. I would highly recommend this book for every owner of the GX7.

I was disappointed in this book, especially as all the Chapter headings were about Sony NEX -6 cameras...poor edit job...which goes to the formulaic, they forgot to substitute GX7 for NEX. I am pretty sure the book has been replicated several time using the formula substituting specific camera names and features to go over general digital photography.As for the mediocre part, this book could have been a lot better had it really spent more time on the advantages and disadvantages of the GX7 and more than summary usage of some of the very unique features of this camera. it is clear that a lot of pictures were not even taken with micro four thirds equipment, which I suppose is OK since he is just illustrating basic points on depth of field, etc.This is really a basic digital photography book. For people that do not know anything about photography, and happen to have bought a GX7, this is a decent resource. The book has a series of exercises that everyone should go through in some manner to test out how their camera performs before they are put in a situation where you need the camera to perform in a certain way, but don't know how it will respond. For people that want to really get to know the GX7, this book does not do it for me.Sorry for the harsh review, but that is how i feel...

I read the Basic Guide that came with my GX7 but being able to listen to a professional photographer speak about how to get the best shots using the GX7 was invaluable. Even being an enthusiast who learned photography with a manual camera, I learned a few things that appy no matter what camera you own. For example, updating the firmware, which I have now done on all my digital cameras. Sure these are basic things that everyone should know but for a new camera owner, it's easy to want to begin shooting the first day. I was suprised at some of the negative 1 star reviews. I have returned some of the books from the Snapshots to Great Shots series but this is not one of them. This book can be read just after you purchase your camera and as a refresher after owning your camera for a few months or years.

I think the book is a very good way to know your camera while you refresh your photography knowledge. I wouldn't recommend for the newbies nor for experts, just for those that know the theory but need some refreshment while getting used to the controls of their new Lumix.I am happy with the purchase

I really read this book with interest, trying to learn the "intricates" of my Lumix G6. I think the author gives you mostly everything you need to use or set in order to make a good photography or even a video. For instance, I make video -especially- and when you work in low light the lesson is to reduce shutter speed. This means reduce the frame per second of your video.

This is a very amateur book with little more than a rehash of the manual coming with the camera. I was very disappointed.

Covers camera controls and menus in detail and also some photography tips. In some cases the GM1 information added a little confusion as I have the GX7. I had to work at ignoring the info given on the other camera. Great book to purchase if you want to make better use of the camera's capabilities.

Tengo una Lumix GM1 y esta guía me ha ayudado mucho a sacarle partido a esta estupenda cámara. El libro está en inglés, pero está todo muy bien explicado.Saludos.

Used to be a keen photographer 25 plus years ago with a Pentax based system. Then just used ,fairly expensive, point and shoot cameras because it was easier and quicker than my slr. Now with more time ,decided to get a bit more serious with my camera and hence a new GX7 was acquired a month or two ago. I really like it but felt I was not using its capabilities enough. So, I purchased this book and it has proved really useful . It successfully navigates a course between a starter guide and a dense photographic manual which only geeks would enjoy. The writer has quite a few photographic guides on YouTube which are worth watching ...especially as they are Lumix based.

J'adore cette redécouverte de mon appareil GM1 avec le point de vue d'un pro. Le livre ne brûle aucune étape de l'apprentissage des bases appliqées à l'appareil. Plus intuitif que le manuel d'utilisation fourni d'origine. Les astuces suggérées par ce pro (l'auteur) sont aussi appréciables.

Einfach ein gutes Buch (in englisch, Kindle-Version), viele nützliche Tipps, insbesondere die Kommentare in den Bildern, kannich nur empfehlen.
