We followed the directions, but organically getting the ball to float is better. I couldn't get it to work at first, so I wanted to return it, DON'T GIVE UP. Use both hands, holding the globe at the top, to slowly raise the ball up towards the magnet at the top. You will feel the globe get very light in your hands as the magnet takes over. Move your hands off the globe gently as the magnet takes over at the sweet spot, right around 1/4" from the top magnet. To get it to spin, blow on the globe lightly once it starts to float, it will spin for hours. Spinning it with your hands is too rough, it knocks the globe out of the magnetic sweet spot and it falls. Very cool that it works without being plugged in, no energy expended, but wow, the lighting really adds a lot to the overall look.

You can either have the globe sit still or spin. When it spins it spins SUPER fast so I returned it.

So beautiful and levitate just as it says, very easy but not with out trying a few times. Jnlike the moon globes that I wasn't able to get levitating but otherwise it's a must have for relaxing and investment. Highly recommend.

It really floats! It is a little tricky to get it to float, but once you do it looks so nice on our bookshelf. !

I purchased this for my bosses retirement as he is a world traveler, and has just about anything he could need. The product works well, and looks very nice. The only thing I would have preferred would be a slightly larger size, but that might make the hovering considerably more difficult. Make sure to use the spacer as directed, or you will have a difficult time achieving the hovering planet.

This is a great light and conversation piece. It made a wonderful present for a teenagers birthday. Only complaint would be that the box isn't attractive for a presentation...thin and cheap.
