Practical solution for combating scale buildup and extending the lifespan of household appliances
The Express Water Polyphosphate Anti-Scale Water Replacement Filter is a practical solution for combating scale buildup and extending the lifespan of household appliances. Here’s a comprehensive review based on its performance and usability:Purpose and Effectiveness:The primary function of the Express Water Polyphosphate Filter is to inhibit scale formation in plumbing and appliances. It achieves this by releasing food-grade polyphosphate into the water supply, which coats surfaces and prevents minerals from adhering and forming scale deposits. This not only helps in maintaining the efficiency of water-using appliances such as water heaters, coffee makers, and dishwashers but also reduces the frequency of maintenance and repairs.Installation and Compatibility:Installing the replacement filter is straightforward and typically compatible with standard 10-inch filter housings. It integrates seamlessly into existing water filtration systems designed for polyphosphate treatment. The process is user-friendly and does not require specialized tools, making it accessible for homeowners looking to improve water quality and appliance longevity.Filtration Capacity and Lifespan:The Express Water Polyphosphate Filter is designed to treat up to 10,000 gallons of water or last approximately 6 months, depending on water quality and usage. This longevity ensures consistent performance in reducing scale buildup without compromising water flow or pressure. Regular replacement as recommended ensures optimal effectiveness in scale prevention.Water Quality and Taste:While the primary focus is on scale prevention rather than filtration for taste or odor, users often notice a slight improvement in water clarity and taste due to reduced mineral content. The filter maintains adequate flow rates while effectively treating hard water, making it suitable for households experiencing issues with scale buildup.Maintenance and Cost Efficiency:Maintenance is minimal, with periodic replacement being the main requirement. The cost of replacement filters is reasonable relative to the benefits gained in protecting appliances and plumbing from scale-related damage. This makes it a cost-effective investment for homeowners seeking to prolong the lifespan of their water-using appliances.Overall Value:Having used the Express Water Polyphosphate Anti-Scale Water Replacement Filter, I can attest to its effectiveness in mitigating scale buildup and preserving appliance efficiency. It offers a practical solution to common hard water problems without the need for complex installations or expensive treatments. The filter’s ability to prolong the life of appliances while improving water quality in terms of scale prevention underscores its value for households looking to maintain a reliable water supply.

Seems to work
We have hard, acidic water. The acid neutralizer makes is harder. This filter seems to minimize the white residue on our black counter top. So far, so good.

Iron filter for black microbial goo on aerators
I own the express whole house system and had the ultimate kit. During the first uses (over 6 months) noted a black goo on the aerators on all faucets. After a quick search on the internet it is due to magnesium in the water. Reviewed which of my 3 filters to swap and put this one in in lieu of my KDF filter and 2 months in no more build up. The goo isn't toxic bit just not desirable and this iron filter did the trick.

Buyer Beware! Misleading Marketing
Since I do not have a Reverse Osmosis system in my house, I was bought this filter to use as the third and final filter in my whole house filter train with in the hope of reducing scale buildup in our home’s water fixtures and pipework.Prior to receiving the items, however, a doubt around safety popped into my head. These filters add polyphosphate salt into your water to bind with scale forming minerals and impede their ability to stick to your appliances. Anything product that adds chemicals into your drinking water should logically be provided with some sort of documentation to demonstrate its safety and suitability for use in this application. The marketing for the product indicates that “food grade” chemicals are used and so I thought that a request for documentation that would prove this claim would be a simple ask. This was not the case!I contacted Express customer support on thre separate times and was not able to get any documented evidence that this product is safe to use in a drinking water application. It is not certified After being falsely reassured during the first two calls that I would receive the documentation I had requested, I decided to call a third and final time. When I expressed my disappointment at Express’s inability to complete my request, the customer service representative told me verbatim that they do not recommend this product for use in drinking water. When I responded by highlighting that the marketing for this product specifically makes mention of the improvement to drinking water taste, the representative waffled and walked back her previous statement “…well, some people actually use it for drinking water but they’ll usually use it as a pre filter to a reverse osmosis system.”Why I had to go through the trouble of making three separate calls to get this information is beyond my comprehension. I am very disappointed that I wasted my time and energy on these filters. I would ask that Express either furnishes appropriate documentation to substantiate their claims that this product is safe for drinking water , OR specifically mention in their marketing that this should only be installed as a pre filter to a Reverse Osmosis system.By the way, here is the direct quote from the Marketing of this product from Express’s website as of the date of this review:“ High Quality Whole Home Water Filter: Express Water’s PHO replacement filter means no more worrying about your home’s water. With specially engineered high flow filtration you can have crisp clean drinking water from any faucet with no drop in your water pressure.”
