The design of the Spartan chess is the same as the one of our older Metal set. However it goes with our Roman chess pieces made from weighted plastic. The lovely burned folding chess board has an insert tray fitting the chessmen very well. It allows the chess pieces storage inside. The chessmen in this set are golden & black while the chess board is brown.

Cheap look
If you think you found a bargain, think again. Better pay $50 more and buy a set with metal pieces. This has a cheap finish and the pieces are plastic.

Plastic pieces are of terrible quality. Looks nothing like the pictures. However return was easy and painless.
