WORTHY SUMMARY OF BASIC PRICIPLES
Beyond the funny "Vegan Cheat Sheet" title, A GREAT READ. Replete with ideas worth considering. Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's preface sets the tone for a SUPERB book based on SCIENCE. Mothers running over twenty marathons in good time have something to share with us. DUH. A well organized useful book - worth your time.Good-humored scientific de-bunking of popular SAD (Standard American Diet) deserves praise. Less bad is NOT good. We often see in media or on olive oil bottles words "heart healthy." Gone are FDA's qualifiers. Gone, in effect, is the truth.HYPE: The Mediterranean diet is a heart-healthy diet. It's rich in olive oil, so olive oil must be heart-healthy. The key to a longer life. (Some myths seem immortal).TRUTH: Those with the longest life expectancy and least heart disease do NOT eat diets rich in olive oil or other fat. They do eat a diet rich in whole, natural foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans. Unfortunately, the "they say olive oil is healthy" simplistic phrase goes on and on. Our "newspaper of record" (NYT) did not help matters on Monday 25 February 2013 in their "The Benefits of Olive Oil" story. The NEJM report cited has been throughly discredited. No NYT apology followed. Not the first time The Times is slow in retractions of falsehoods. Remember Iraq?Think cancer, heart problems, diabetes, obesity, and early death "just happen" or that artery-clogging olive oil, butter and animal protein ( particularly chicken, fish, eggs, and dairy ) are a good idea? Think again. Don't give up just yet. Simple, Fantastic Vegan Meals!
After watching the Forks Over Knives documentary and actively trying to incorporate healthier food choices for my family, I decided I wanted to (slowly) make the transition to a vegan diet. Lo and behold, I walk into my local grocery store to see that Amy Cramer is speaking to promote her new cookbook. I grabbed one of my vegan friends and we checked it out. Her talk led me to buy this cookbook for my Kindle. This book is WONDERFUL! It's filled with quick, easy, delicious recipes. I had also purchasedĀ Forks Over Knives - The Cookbook: Over 300 Recipes for Plant-Based Eating All Through the Year , as well asĀ The China Study Cookbook: Over 120 Whole Food, Plant-Based Recipes .....this one is hands down my favorite. It's real food for the American palate that offers an easy, versatile transition to vegan dishes. It basically takes food that my family has always enjoyed and vegan-izes them. I've cooked more since I started making the recipes in this book than I ever used to. It's a great cookbook for the working family that wants to make quick, healthy meals everyone can enjoy. Not to mention, the authors provide many suggestions and supplemental information on transitioning to vegan eating. There's even a 21 day vegan meal plan, which is super useful and realistic for those who enjoy eating out.My favorite dishes from this book are the Italian dinners and salad/wraps. The desserts have been so-so. I've also noticed that sometimes ingredient amounts or serving sizes may be off. I just make a note for next time and move on to the next recipe.Overall, I've loved this book. I cook from it weekly (at least!). It has been a huge motivator and cheerleader for my vegan transition. And my husband, who has been less than enthusiastic about giving up meat, has very much enjoyed the meals. I even made the vegetable lasagna for my steak-loving in laws to huge accolades...maybe they were just being polite, but I'm pretty sure they didn't notice that the dish was lacking in cheese.

Must Have for Vegans Traveling Outside Their Comfort Zone
I was faced with the dilemma of being diagnosed with advanced cardiovascular disease, so adopting a Vegan diet including the elimination of extracted oils is the only option I've found that offers the possibility of reversing the narrowing of key coronary arteries. In my view, I had no choice. Thankfully, I've come to really enjoy 70% of the vegan recipes my wife and I have tried. The major challenge is learning how to eat away from home. This book is really handy for anyone who needs to plan, improvise or compromise while traveling away from home and eating out. Their tips on things you can bring along, on where to find Vegan options in unfamiliar places, and even calling ahead to ask for help from restaurateurs/chefs has proved much easier than I expected. Most food establishments have enthusiastically worked with me, even when I was not able to call ahead. Things are well indexed so you can find solutions and options very quickly. The book is small enough to tote along, to slip inside a briefcase, shoulder bag or purse. Just read it before you head out.I live in Sonoma CA, in the heart of Vegan Country (Northern California), but on Friday, I'm venturing into a Vegan Wilderness. My niece will be married in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. When I searched for Vegan Friendly fare, even Google had trouble. The first option that appeared in my browser was a Smoked Bar-B-Q place. The nearest Whole Foods is 1 hr 50 minutes South. If The Vegan Cheat Sheet gets me through this one, I'll add that 5th Star

Awesome!
Really comprehensive compendium of useful tips and information about veganism and nutrition. I've seen those 1 star reviews and I absolutely don't agree with them, but hey ho everyone has their own opinion. Book doesn't need pictures to be good, it's the content that matters the most for me and I found so many delicious and inspiring recipe's in here. Good survival guide with the list of all main chain restaurants and example of vegan dishes they serve. Don't let others put you off of this book, it's actually better than many other full of colours and pictures books I had in a past.

This book has some great tips. And vegan recipes
This book has some great tips. And vegan recipes. I was just a little taken back how little was written about animal welfare. Made the book feel a little shallow.

very nice guide
I was very interested in the topic of veganism. The authors give good information on veganism without judging or going into more than health benefits.Interesting read if you like to read about food.
