Given as gift.
Seems suitable for beginning child. Not to big of book so it doesn't scare a child. Text clear, written for children.

Chess teaching made so visual and easy to understand
This is very helpful when learning for the first time. My son can't wait to learn.

Great โChessโ basics - with errors
A great beginnerโs book, however, I must agree with the other reviews about the several errors found on pages 8-11 defining where the pieces go along the X and Y access. This is disappointing since the placement of pieces is the most important part of learning and starting the game. That said, the Author has set up the pieces correctly and the actual diagrams are displayed correctly. If you do buy this book, view the board and how it is set up and disregard the confusing and inaccurate written explanations.I agree, Tim has a great idea, and this is very basic and easy to understand book, but he should have proof-read and checked for errors before having it published. I hope he makes the corrections.I still would recommend this book.

Worth every dime.
The content was easy to read, the examples were on point and the illustrations were very helpful. I bought 3 and used it to teach children age 7-12 and it worked well across reading levels.

Kids will find dull and boring
No fun pictures or diagrams for children. Dull dry and boring. See photos attached.

Great for kids
My 7 y/o has read through it twice. Helped to make him Take 1st place for his chess club where he helps teach the other children how to play.

Easy to understand for 1st timers young or old
I am almost 79 yrs old with a desire to learn to play chess; learning something new to offset the looming memory decline. This book was perfect for me and certainly would be great for the young with an agile mind. Starts with the very basics of how to place the pieces and their values and proceeds to explain the various moves in a way that aids the player to become more efficient and enables them to participate in more advanced challenges with an opponent.

Chess book
The explaination is concise and clear. The image should come in the same page as the explaination. Reader finds it difficult to turn another page after reading explaination.

Good introduction, but some mistakes in the diagrams
This book is a good introductory lesson for kids wanting to learn chess. There are however a few mistakes in the book, for example pages 52 and 53 explain how the queen is checkmating the king, but actually the king can escape in a free square (F7) - NOT checkmate. Also some of the explanations for moving pieces are on one page while the diagrams showing this are on the following page, making it more confusing to read than it should be. Overall a good book to learn from, but certain parts are incorrect.

Far to many mistakes
how can a child be expected to learn when the basic piece positioning are wrong. I would have return this book if I hadnโt started to make corrections.

Incorrect information
I do not recommend this book. As other reviewers have pointed out, the grid references for setting up the board are incorrect. This is not at all helpful for learning the game
