The Tiger's Child: What Ever Happened to Sheila?

Middle of Sheila's story
It was fun to read a book that I didn't want to put down. It seems that Tory put her heart above professionalism, but I'm not so sure that is a bad thing in this case. It's heartbreaking to realize how many children are raised without love, guidance or structure. The list could go on. When I finished "One Child" years ago I was left assuming that Sheila was on the right path, that she had a chance of a better life. Now that I find out differently, I wonder how Sheila's adult life worked out. The ending of "Tiger's Child,", which though realistic, was open-ended. l was left me wondering if Sheila would ever have a healthy relationship and if she had a child, would she be a good mother.

Wonderful Book
Such a wonderful Book. Torey Hayden’s books should be required reading for all teachers. Through her books I have learned the most powerful tool anyone could possess, that is the ability to hear the meaning behind a child’s silence or anyone’s silence for that matter.

Is this book about Sheilas well-being or Toreys ego....?
Im halfway through The Tigers Child because I, like everyone else, needed to see that Sheila was ok. I think it's really great that the author is so invested in children who have difficult situations, but I have to be honest, the author is incredibly unlikable so far in this book. She's very judgmental of Sheila's style and personality but what irks me most is her seemingly strange need to have six year old Sheila back..... This book seems to be more about her ego and dissapointment with the fact that the girl has moved on. I guess I'll have to finish it before completing my review....I hope the author comes to the realization that the girl cannot forever be the poor damaged soul that she can "tame".

Follow up to what ever happened to the very 1st kid Torey made us care about
Her books were the impetus that began my 30yr career in Special Needs. I read the original book about Sheila in 9th grade. Heartbreaking true stories in the early beginnings of integrating all kids in schools.

Satisfying and Heart-Warming
When I first heard about TIGER'S CHILD, I knew that I had to read it to find out what had happened to Sheila. I was not disappointed. I found that Sheila had carried a great deal of anger around with her all these years toward Torey for "showing her the good life and then deserting her just like her mother had." This rather dumb-founded Torey, because she was just doing what all teachers do at the end of a school year--saying good-bye to her students and moving on. Torey had to work very hard in this book to build up a trust level again. Sheila was not going to make this easy. However, the ending was satisfying; and we are left knowing that Sheila will be all right. I don't know how Torey makes her writing such compelling reading. I could not put the book down--even when I needed to look at scenery on a vacation. I recommend this book to anyone who needs a heart-warming read.

The Followup on this intregueing child!
I was upset to leave Sheila at the end of book one. She was only six... so I was excited to continue reading about her in The Tiger's Child. it was very real to life... but also satisfying to know the outcome.

What an amazing story!
I will definitely be reading more of Torey Hayden's books. I have lost several hours of sleep just because I couldn't put the book down. I just had to find out what was going to happen. Stories like this just goes to show you dont have to be a product of your environment. You can choose who you want to be and your on destiny!!

Decent, but somehow takes the happy feel off One Child
I was SO excited to read this book since I loved One Child. But it wasn't nearly as good and honestly? I think I would have preferred my image of Sheila to stay as a little girl saved by her teacher.

The tiger's child.
I did enjoy the book as I have done with all of these books. I'm not in agreement with her methods though. I think she gets over involved with troubled children and they get to rely on her as the 'mother or parent figure' they never had. She should observe 'safeguarding children' issues and not take children into her home, as in this case, or recruit them to work with other abused children. I do not doubt her intentions were well meaning but I think she needed more professionalism than was portrayed here.

The story Of Sheila
A very good emotional read. I was dissappointed that Tory didn't try harder to keep in contact with Sheila after Tory moved away and subsequntly through Sheila's younger life. Lots of ups and downs before Shiela sorts herself out and starts to come to terms with what happened to her. A well written book. But I prefer Casey Watson stories, which are also about true life events.

The Tiger's Child - very brief thoughts
I wanted to read it to find out what became of Sheila as she grew up. Like Sheila, I felt that she had been abandoned by Tori after a very intensive and supportive short period in her life.It was obvious that there was going to be a lot of concerns and unusual events in her teenage life. I felt that Tori was rather naive in the original book, but she was so young. Again, she showed a lot of naivety when going to meet Chad's family but she relly came through for Sheila in the end. What a gripping story and it was wonderful to find that Sheila actually made choices for herself in the end, with the huge support given to her by Tori.It sort of gives you hope for the future of some of the troubled children i have seen through my teaching career but it will need a tremendously strong character to succeed.
