Compact USB Wi-Fi Adapter for BeagleBone Black

I have tried and test several mini wireless USB dongles for BeagleboneEdmax EW-7811 (8192 chipset); D-Link 121W, all forcompatibility w/ the new 4gb Beaglebone BlackThis is the *only* mini one so far I have found that works OOBw/o the pain of recompiling the driver. So save yourselftime and effort and get this one. Note that you mustspecify this device as 'ra0' in the file /etc/network/interfaces.

I wasn't able to get it to work with Angstrom installed, but once I installed debian (which I was planning on doing anyway), it was very easy to set up following the guide Jon Hoffman included on his blog which is linked in an earlier review. Install Debian with the boot image on beagleboard's site and start up LXDE with ethernet plugged in and use putty to do a serial terminal session (I used the Gearmo 3.3 v FTDI cable, it's possible with a regular usb cable as well). Install tightvncserver and start a session with the computer on the same network (I used vnc viewer in windows) Plug the device in, go to the network manager's preferences. Just put in "ra0" under "wireless interface". It didn't work instantaneously but after rebooting it identified the device and I've been using it since. Thank you Jon!

Bought this to connect my BeagleBone black to the internet. Initial attempts didn't connect up automatically, and the debian wireless tool couldn't see my network. Might be something simple, but it isn't a trivial plug and play. Will update later when I've put more time into it.

It seems to work great with my beaglebone black. Not the best range -- my desk is a bit farther than my wifi likes -- but good enough and not too much worse than more expensive and more bulky dongles.

Doesn't show up as anything on the BeagleBone Black or in Windows. At least the Edimax ones work some of the time. I have yet to get this one to detect as anything at all.

A little cheap feeling but it works.

It works, but it gets really got, and periodically drops the connection on BBB.

Didn't work in Beagle Bone. So, to see if it was just software, tried it in a Mac and in a Windows notebook. Would not show up in any of them.
