Best Product Owner Book I have read
I have read quite a few books on being a product owner as I am fairly new to this position. This book is the most practical of all of the books I have read. It is very engaging and you can picture yourself in these same types of scenarios. It was very helpful rather than just reading a text book. i can't wait for the Product Owner Quote Cards. I have the Product Owner coaching cards as well and it really helps get you in the right frame of mind when you are stuck on a problem.

Really enjoyed this book
I had finished a Certified Scrum Product Owner training class wanting more information and read this book. It was just the perfect blend of useful stories showing how to apply the principals that reinforced my class. Glad I read it.

Good introduction to Product Ownership
I like the works from Geoff Watts and thus had great expectations when picking up Product Mastery. I wasn't disappointed. The book does a pretty good job in covering some basics of the Product Owner and it is a good guide for people who start as Product Owner. It was also an enjoyable read. The book is structured around an acronym, the acronym DRIVEN. This stands for Decisive, Ruthless, Informed, Versatile, Empowering, and Negotiable. These are five characteristics of a good Product Owner. The book has 6 parts with each 2 chapters. Each part is for one of the DRIVEN-letters. The parts start of with a story which then gets clarified and used later in the chapters. The story is followed by some concrete techniques. Techniques mentioned are, for example, decision making matrix, asking CHILD-like questions, hold brainstorm battles, or playing priority markets. The books was well written and think it will be especially helpful for beginning Product Owners. It wasn't extremely thorough and I did think it was missing certain aspects of Product Ownership especially in large products or organizations. Still, this would be a good I would give to Product Owners I work with. 4 starts, worth reading.

Understanding what makes a PO great helps us all!
Being a product owner is in some ways an impossible job, but it IS a job, and people need to know how to do it. Geoff applies his “DRIVEN” model to explore what makes POs good – and great. As I started reading this book, I was a bit taken aback by Geoff’s “DRIVEN” model for POs: Decisive, Ruthless, Informed, Versatile, Empowering, Negotiable. “Ruthless” is not a term I associate with Geoff and his work. It strikes me as a negative term. But as I read on, the concepts all came together and made sense. Geoff presents a bold vision of what a PO can be, and what she can contribute. The fictionalized, but still real-life, stories provides a great learning experience. Like many people, I learn best by hearing from people who had the same problem I have – and how they solved it. The stories illustrate the problems and cognitive biases that trap us.I especially like the powerful questions sprinkled throughout the book. This book will make you question and think about how you can best serve your customers. I appreciate that it delves into common problems such as imposter syndrome. Geoff encourages POs to be brave and believe in themselves. He explains ways to approach difficult conversations. As a fan of models, I found the ones presented here useful, such as the decision-making matrix, and the matrix of influence. The book also introduces techniques I’ve found extremely helpful, such as the Perfection Game from Jim McCarthy‘s Core Protocols, and user story mapping from Jeff Patton. An especially interesting part of the book is on difference between customer feedback and customer data, and how to use it. We need to sit up and take notice of the analytical data available to us now. Geoff provides help with leadership skills, what styles are helpful in which situations.Readers will get ideas for experiments to help their delivery and customer teams achieve shared understanding of features and stories, and find innovative ways to deliver value to the business in a timely way.

Essential Reading for Product Owners
Any book that starts with forewords by Scrum co-creator Jeff Sutherland and product expert Roman Pichler is going to be good. And this book does not disappoint, Geoff Watts follows his excellent ‘Scrum Mastery’ and ‘The Coaches Casebook‘ by examining the product ownership role.Geoff describes the traits of great product owners through the acronym DRIVEN:- Decisive- Ruthless- Informed- Versatile- Empowering- NegotiableProduct Mastery successfully highlights best practice by comparing good to great product ownership. This is an essential book for product owners seeking to better understand and excel in their role.
