Overpriced junk from China
I should have heeded the warnings. This is worth maybe $20 - not $50. 1. Only one of the two speakers work - I want my money back or some type of credit. 2. The 8 tiny screws that hold the back panel on strip easily - Chinese junk metal 3. The only way to get at volume and settings is to strip the 8 cheap screws and assemble with the 6 that remain good not providing a watertight seal and having it then collect moisture behind the cover eventually leading to corroding the cheap batteries 4. When the sensor does actually work and pick up a moving object, the lights flash and the audio begins but is different than what you hear when choosing audio type settings - weird.

Interesting unit!
Interesting unit. It makes all kinds of sounds. I had a family emergency before I could put it out and the birds already did their damage on my fruit trees

Bird b gone is worthless for land water shore line.
Will NOT scare away geese or animals. Sounds like a soft crying baby. I bought 2 and there are 6 or more geese on my lawn that walked right by the motion sound & light piece of junk. Wast of money & time. Sending it back.

Audible and Ultrasonic/Infrasonic Modes Are Automatically Turned Off at Night
By the time this BIRD B GONE MMYARD SOLAR YARD SHIELD arrived, my local wild turkeys had moved on. However, I'm reasonably confident that this device will scare them away from my yard when they return. In AUDIBLE mode (needed for birds--and humans!), it's quite loud when adjusted to a high volume within its low-to-high range. Nearby motion activates the sound, and it cycles through various truly annoying noises--barking dogs, squealing pigs, gunshots, banging, and three different sirens. If you have nearby neighbors, you'll only want to turn the device on when birds or pests are present. If you get a lot of packages or visitors, you'll want to place the device in a spot where it won't turn on and startle people coming to your door. A nice feature, if you live in a populated area, is that a light sensor automatically turns OFF the AUDIBLE and ULTRASONIC/INFRASONIC modes at night. At night, motion will activate the LED lights, causing them to flash to repel unwanted visitors (birds, rodents, raccoons, deer, etc.). Of course, this means that the device is of limited usefulness if you're primarily bothered by nocturnal foragers, such as raccoons. (It also means that the device is of very limited value for nighttime home security, as detected motion will not produce an audible warning.) It's worth noting that the device is "Not for use near children or for use near pets such as hamsters, gerbils, and ferrets." I can easily understand why. With the ULTRASONIC/INFRASONIC mode set to a middle range (the one for "cats"), I am conscious of a high-pitched sound that makes me uncomfortable when I'm holding the device. The instructions do warn that the high frequency sound mode "should not be used where people are present for prolonged periods of time." The OFF switch is accessed by removing the back plate, which is awkward. If you're using the device outdoors, you will probably want to secure the plate with the tiny included screws, for maximim weather protection. However, you may decide to skip this step, given that the case doesn't appear to be watertight or particularly water-resistant even with the back plate secured. In general, the device "should be located outside pointing away from structure or indoors within an area rarely occupied." In an attic to repel bats would be okay, I guess, as long as you can place it in an appropriate spot for solar charging. I found that the solar charging works well. I placed my device in a south-facing flower bed that gets sun all afternoon, and the four rechargeable NI-CD 800 mAh 1.2 volt batteries were fully charged in the recommended two days (with the unit set to OFF). The device comes with an optional stake that secures it in the ground; or it can be hung on a fence with included screws. Because the frequently needed OFF switch is rather inaccessible, and because the device will not sound audible alarms at night, I rate this product at 3 stars ("It's okay" on the official Amazon scale). It's okay for me, because wild turkeys aren't nocturnal, but it's not going to work very well for nighttime pests.
