this machine uses very low amps,only 2.2 amps,or about 130 watts. you can sharpen knives all day and hardly raise your electric bill.used this machine for mmore than 25 years and only replaced the 2 small belts in the back once! wheels never seem to wear out....important!,this machine is made to sharpen beater knives,not expansive german or japenise knives.it will scratch the sides of the knives! beater knives are used by knife rental services.and chefs ,butchers do not care about scratched knives only sharp ones.another thing,don't use water with this machine,it will make the big grinding wheels go out of round!.....good luck!...big al..
