Saluki: The Desert Hound and the English Travelers Who Brought it to the West

A classic book
Brilliant book. So glad it’s been reprinted. But we know now that some of it is slightly inaccurate as tapestries and paintings show that there were salukis in Italy, France and Belgium in the 13th and 14th centuries. Excellent none the less with a forward by Sir Terence Clarke who has done so much to encourage breeders in the Middle East as well as here.

A must have book for any Saluki lover.
This book was a long time in process, and the amount of research time spent on it is reflected in the content. Not only does Mr. Duggan dig deep into the history of the Saluki from the view of the English who went to the Middle East and brought these amazing hounds back with them, he presents his research in an engaging, very readable manner. While scholarly, there is nothing dry about this book. If you are interested in Salukis and their history, this book is a necessary addition to your library.

Captivating story about the early Saluki imports to the West.
Well researched. The author has a natural talent for presenting multiple facts which occurred over overlapping places and times and presenting them in an almost linear story. He captures the cultural uniqueness of the the period and transports the reader to an earlier age. Lots of details about the early Saluki imports intertwined with the lives of the early European importers and Middle Eastern breeders.

Really interesting history for anyone interested in the breed.I love dipping in and out of it, but too much all in one go.
