One Way
Fantastic read, great storyline and characters! To start with I wasn’t too sure about the book, but I’m glad I didn’t quit it! A child in protective custody turns out to be more. A definite must read!!!

exciting
The pace kept the story moving, characters were engaging, I would read another book by this author! Hope he reads one of my mysteries, Kathleen Squire-Merolla, fellow author!

Riveting Is An Understatement
What a fast pace, detailed storyline that keeps you riveted as you turn each page. Outstanding effort, beyond well executed.

Un-put-downable!!
By the time I got through with this thriller, I was as shaken and worn out as the characters. This book has almost wall to wall action, with tension that never lets up and twists you will not see coming. Plus, you just can’t help but like the characters who, believe me, are put through the wringer. This was the first Tom Barber book I’ve ever read. I am now a believer.Just as soon as I get my breath back, I’m starting another!

Wow, constant action
This fast paced book really was a page turner. It was hard to put down. Archer was almost unbelievably resilient. The story had several twists and kept me on the edge with drama.

Action packed
You will be worn out from hanging on to the edge of your seat. The main story unfolds in a less than 24 hour period. Hold on, its a bumpy ride.

My Adrenalin Went Sky High!!
First I have to tell you what my first thoughts were when I first started reading this story. I was puzzled as why a story that happened on American soil was written with British spelling. So I read the author’s bio and that was when I discovered he was raised in England even though he later moved to the US.Second—I know people have been comparing this story to the movie, “Die Hard” and I can totally see why. Only I think this story is 10 times better than “Die Hard” even though I loved that movie. This story kept me on a roller coaster ride—with more fast down hills than slow up hills! The action never let up. Every time you thought it was all over with for our heroes, something else un-expectantly would happen and save the day.I am normally more a paranormal reader than anything else, but this story kept me in more suspense than anything scary I have ever read. At one point the suspense got so intense that my adrenalin went sky high and I had to put the book down until I could calm down a bit. That’s just how intense it got.I loved almost all the good guys in the story. I felt so sad when some of the characters didn’t make it to the end of the story. There was one particular character than I didn’t like in the story, who supposedly was a good person, and it turned out that my instinct for not liking this person turned out to be right on the money. It is a small mystery that you will have to read for yourself. Other than this small mystery, there is a bigger mystery that you will learn toward the end of the story. I can’t tell you what it concerns or it would spoil the story for you. Just know that everything is not always what it looks like.I have to add just a couple more thoughts about this story, some things I really appreciated. First of all this was a stand alone story even though it is a series—thank goodness an author who realizes how people hate cliff hangers or stories left unresolved. I will continue to read this series just for that reason if no other reason. Second, there was no steamy sex in this story—something I hate reading—intimacy should be private between two people, not for the entire world to see. And third, I didn’t see one F word in this story! I don’t know why a lot of authors think that by using continuous foul language in a story that it makes a story better—just the opposite is true. If you read this story you will see that foul language would not make this a better story—it is a fantastic story as it is! So if you like a book with a good story and plot, with a little mystery thrown in, and just a hint of romance and a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, then this book is for you!

wonderful read
Tom Barber’s characters come to life on the pages of his books. They seem almost real. The nonstop action and ever present danger for anyone on the good guys side ramp up from explosive starts to cataclysmic events followed by peaceful endings. Each one I have read has been great. I’m sure they all are.

Buen libro, un tanto exagerado, pero muy entretenido
Me gustan las historias policiacas, entre mas rambo style mejor. Tendré que buscar mas libros del autor. Muy satisfecha de mi elección

Enjoyed this book very much. Hard to put down and is a real page turner to the end. I recommend this book.

Implausible plot.
I found the plot implausible in that I often found myself questioning why our hero was prolonging the agony by not doing the obvious thing. It was reasonably well written but irritatingly peppered with grammatical mistakes. There's not one "whom" in the book."Either or" is one of two choices not multiple choice; either A or B, not either A, B or C.Eithert-shirt is used throughout the book. T-shirts are called T-shirts because when laid flat, they are T shaped, not t shaped.Perversely iPads are referred to as I-pads.The author has no idea what a group noun is and has scant regard for the correct use of apostrophes.

"Pause," or "Paused," is used 100 times.
This is the fifth Sam Archer novel I've read but I reckon I'm calling it quits now. As with the previous four novels, Tom Barber gets some cool ideas going but, overall, this book ultimately fails to deliver. I can't remember if the word "Pause" and/or "Paused" was used as much in the previous ones. If so, I honestly don't know how I made it to book five. If not, it's a strange thing to have manifested now. There are 100 uses of pause/paused it in this book. Not "around" 100, exactly 100 which makes me think it's intentional. It's mostly used during dialogue. Pause. To increase tension. I'll certainly be putting this series on pause. Indefinitely. Although, I do have a strange hankering to watch, "The Raid," again.

Breathless excitement
Just when will I get my breath back? The action just never stops. It all revolves around one tenement building in which Sam archer is almost accidentally involved. As he sits enjoying the warmth of the sun, he becomes aware of a rather disturbing situation, and, being a member of the NYPD, he becomes involved by trying to help a group who end up holing up in the previously mentioned tenement building. The whole building is assaulted by an armed group whose purpose may not be as clear as it would seem at the beginning. Survival is the name of the game, and all Sam's skills are called upon. Some of his abilities may appear to be almost super human, but it does make for a thumping good read. I found it so difficult to put down that I was almost out of breath to know what would happen. On to the next one!
