Great shelves
Great product. Of course they’re a little shaky but you don’t need them to be real strong, especially for the cheaper price tag. Would recommend.

THE WORST, MOST POORLY MADE, CHEAPLY PRODUCED PIECE OF GARBAGE ON PLANET EARTH
DO NOT BUY THIS THING. This piece of garbage is the most horrendous, asinine, terrible thing on earth. The fact that human beings are actually in the business of producing this thing makes me wish a meteor would smite us all. The back of it is paper. LITERALLY PAPER. It ripped almost completely in half just from picking up the bookcase after I assembled it. It's also BACKWARDS because the only way that makes sense to lay it on the back to pin it down... IS BACKWARDS. The bottom of it broke off just from trying to slide it into the corner of the room. It doesn't stand up straight and leans over in the middle. It rocks back and forth at the joints in the middle like it's gonna collapse on itself, and it probably will. The top of it is also backwards, which is the only way for it to be installed because of where the holes are drilled for the hardware. This thing is not worth the 40 minutes it took to assemble it. It's not even worth the styrofoam packaging it came with that I have to vacuum out of my carpet now. I sincerely hope the Malaysian slave workers in this factory get freed and never have to be subjected to this company ever again. Whoever owns this company deserves the electric chair. I have never hated a product more in my life. As soon as I buy a good replacement, I am throwing this monstrosity off my second floor balcony so I can watch it explode in the street.

These are the best assembly shelves I've ever bought
Over the years, with kids, jobs, etc - I've purchased several "assembly needed shelving units" - for dorms, bedrooms, makeshift libraries - you name it. I've bought the name brand ones at the Scandinavian store, I've purchased the cheapest ones at the chain Mart stores and several shops in between. I say all of this to explain, I've seen and assembled more than my fair share of shelving units to be able to state that hands down - these are the best. For starters, the packaging alone shows they've applied some thought. There are disposable, plastic bumpers on all of the corners - you know the corners that even when you purchase a unit at a local store and bring it home yourself 9 times out of 10 there's a corner that has exposed pressed board...they've packaged their units in a way that all but prevents any cracked corners, chunks missing, etc. Score a huge win right there alone. The other thoughtful idea that I've only seen one other time (and paid extra for) is the inclusion of wall mounts to prevent the unit from falling forward. Again, huge win! The assembly is just as mind-numbing as any other unit, decent instructions, nothing really to say here. One part that was a drawback, perhaps, is that each shelf is designed to hold at most 20 pounds - they spell this out for you. I say it is perhaps a drawback, because I don't know how that compares. I've never seen another shelving unit indicate the weight per shelf, so perhaps this is the norm. I will say I've more than that weight on a few shelves and there's no apparent sagging or bowing (yet?). I have a slight complaint about the backing boards included, as that they have been over-creased - for lack of another description - in that when I unfolded one to nail it into place, it became two sheets instead of one. Last complaint is the knobs to lay the shelves into place are plastic and either slide in with far too much ease, or don't fit at all and must be tapped in with a hammer - which means hope you like the position of those shelves as they will never be re-arranged again. Overall, my two small complaints aside, these are a great value for the price and the best you'll find in any price range.

Great Product for the Price!
I had been looking for a bookshelf for a very long time when I came across this one. I was so excited about the price and the way it looked that I didn't bother looking at the reviews (shame on me) before I ordered it. After the order was already processed and the thing had shipped, I found some of the reviews and was actually really scared. Everyone said that it was cheap and weak and wouldn't hold anything. Some even said it fell apart as they were trying to stand it up. Needless to say, I was a little worried. When the box showed up (2 days after it had originally be scheduled to be delivered) it was really beat up and torn in several places. I was worried that it had affected the pieces inside it was so bad. I don't know if that happened with UPS or what, but it was the worst condition I have ever had a package show up in. Thankfully, the pieces were unharmed and I started trying to put the thing together, only to realize, that the hardware was missing. I don't know if it was because the box was so damaged and it had fallen out or if it had just been packed without it, but I was kind of upset that I couldn't put it together. I contacted the Furinno customer support line on the instructions (which were practically in shreds by the way) via email and told them that the unit came without the hardware. I honestly expected to have to go out and buy the hardware myself, but I felt they should know in case it was a packaging issue on their end. I got an email back within an hour asking me the order number and the unit model number and they told me they would send the hardware out at no cost to me and apologized for the inconvenience. I got the hardware a few days later and was able to FINALLY put my shelf together, which was when the real worry began. As I was assembling it, I was really worried about it all falling apart like most of the reviews had said. But I was very surprised at how sturdy it actually was. It was easy to assemble and it actually works perfectly for what I need it to! I know it's bad, but I even tried rocking it a few times to see if any movement or slight bump (I have two kids who play in the playroom where my shelf is) would cause it to fall down. It didn't. I am actually very happy with this product and have attached a picture to show what it looks like put together with all my books on it.

Poor Quality, Pieces Unlabeled/Chipped/Broken, AVOID THIS ITEM
I have gained some significant experience with building particleboard bookcases after multiple moves over the past decade. Since particleboard furniture doesn't tend to survive a move very well, I have bought and built new bookcases each time I moved for medical school, residency, fellowship, and two jobs. This is by far the worst experience I have had with a set of particleboard bookcases. In the past, I have bought similar particleboard bookcases from Walmart and assembled them in each new apartment I've lived in. Those are fairly cheap like these, and again, suitable for use in one apartment without it being a big deal to chuck them when I move out. Even without the instructions for how to build the bookcases, once you've built a few of them, assembly of subsequent bookcases goes pretty fast. So what went wrong this time? 1) As others have mentioned, the pieces of both bookcases arrived broken, chipped, and in generally poor condition. The boxes themselves were fine, so I do not think the poor condition of the bookcase parts was due to rough handling during shipping. 2) As others have mentioned, there were NO labels on any of the pieces except for one crossbar. This is not an accident in one box; I opened the second box as well, and none of those pieces was labeled either. 3) The workmanship in general was very flimsy and poor quality. I was unable to assemble the bookcase and have it stay together with just the hardware provided. I tried super gluing the pieces together to reinforce the bookshelf, but this still wasn't sufficient to keep the bookcase together. It kept collapsing even after multiple attempts to reinforce the assembly. This was WITHOUT any books or anything else placed on it. Had I never assembled a bookcase before, it might be fair to make a case that maybe it was me, not them. But I finally had to concede that trying to put these bookcases together is simply not going to happen. After several hours of frustration and attempting to build the bookcases in spite of the problems with them, I gave up and contacted Amazon for a return. I wound up going to Target and buying a pair of their similarly priced particleboard bookcases, which were of much better quality/condition and were easy to assemble, similar to the Walmart bookcases I have used in the past. These are now in the living room of my new apartment, and they look great. In general, I love Amazon, and I very rarely give anything a one star review (this may in fact be my first). But I thought that you (my fellow customers), as well as Amazon, needed to know just how poor quality this item really is. It is definitely not up to Amazon's usual standard for the items it sells. I would highly recommend that if you are looking for an economically priced particleboard bookcase, you should buy it from Target or Walmart instead of buying this one.

Flimsy, cheap material. Back is worthless.
Looks good, but is pretty flimsy. The cardboard for the back is ridiculously chap. It’s folded into thirds. When I took it out of the box and unfolded it, one half broke along both seems and the other half broke along one. I had to tape them back together. I would not buy these shelves if they will be free standing. Place against a wall to one side, or secure them to a wall. They’re too flimsy to stay upright without doing so. Additional annoyances: 1. The letter stickers indicating which board is which are stuck on with space-age, NASA grade glue, so be very careful trying to peal them off. After trying to remove several, and pulling the fake wood veneer off, I decided to leave the rest on. 2. The backing is exactly the same size as the back of the shelves, so spend some time lining it up properly. If you are off on any of the sides, the second back piece will not fit properly. 3. This set of shelves only comes with three moveable shelves, so two of your shelves are going to be very tall. There really should be four moveable shelves, so you can have six shelves of the same height. I'm sure it's done to save on cost, but it's a weird decision since there's no configuration to have even spaced shelves.

Cheap, cheap, cheap! But it gets the job done...
Not a "paid for" review - I actually bought it and put it together myself. Basically, you're getting what you pay for here; it's a VERY cheaply made book case. The synthetic wood it's made of is extremely brittle and cracks easily. I tightened the fasteners for the top panel of the book shelf (by hand) and it caused the metal fastener to break and the edge of the wood to crack. The back panels are basically just cardboard that you need to hammer in yourself with 40 tiny nails (provided) and it looks awful when it's done. If you're going to put anything over 20 pounds on any of the shelves, there are only two that I would say could safely handle that weight or more (the very bottom and the middle). It was relatively easy to assemble, I was able to put the entire thing together myself in about an hour. But I will say this again, the materials are VERY brittle. They will easily break or crack if you over-tighten the fasteners or bend the frame the wrong way when you go to move the book shelf. I had to add several screws of my own to ensure everything was fully secure. You also definitely want to plan on securing this shelf to the wall because the thinness of the unit and its overall height makes it vulnerable to tipping over easily (hardware to do this is included). You'll need a large screwdriver and a hammer to complete the assembly.

great quality for price
GREAT QUALITY a bit hard to put it together you got to have the tools for sure and takes a bit of time to put it together.. I like the sturdiness and the good instructions and best if you already have put few items like this together and no sweat. price was great as well it was a special and I almost got it for half off.
