There is a lot to like about this kit. I read some of the reviews here, so one thing I was very careful about was ensuring that the gears flowed smoothly every step of the way. It worked great all the way up to one point, which I will elaborate on. The planes were actually kind of fun to put together, which I didn't think would be the case. It's a joy to watch once it's winded, although I will have to say that the song "It's a Small World" is one of the most annoying songs on the planet. The only possible way to make it more annoying is to omit the chorus and just play the verse over and over again, which is exactly what we have here. It's literally the only thing I don't like about this kit. The only problem I really had during assembly was when I was affixing the top of the carousel to the rest. The pieces that anchor the planes and holds all of the gears popped out while I was pushing on the top. This, I believe, is where my gear misalignment occurred. I didn't even think to try to retest everything before I broke out the glue and made it all permanent. The thing flowed smoothly and flawlessly before that, and like another model I recently assembled, I'm 100% confident that if I was to build this one again, it would not jerk. That said, if I wind it fully, it will run for a good couple of minutes. It will eventually stop once the motor winds down and it encounters a snag in one of the gears. However, I think the important thing is that it actually does run despite the fact that I made an error that caused it to be a little jerky.

Precision laser cuts and fairy thin wood makes it very easy to remove parts without damage, but there are a number of spares included in case something breaks. Picture instructions are clear and easily followed. As with other wooden kits like this, it is sometimes easier to insert tabs if you sand down the tab edges a little. Had to use a bit of glue on a couple of them as well to hold them in place. In addition to waxing, I had to work on some of the wooden gear assemblies to ensure they moved smoothly. In the end everything woks fine. A fun little project with moderate difficulty. I would recommend it for someone who has some experience working with wooden models.
