Never Give Up: Triumphing Over Polio: A Personal Memoir By Myrna Nielson Thacker

This short, heartening book has been a breath of fresh air during COVID19. I like the conversational style the author uses, and I feel as if she's sitting next to me telling me her personal story and anecdotes. My favorite is when she was using the "automatic elevator" in the hospital, but I won't reveal any more details. (You'll have to read the book yourself to find out what happened to Myrna.) I can't believe that an adolescent had so much courage and faith to face a life-changing situation, such as polio, and I'm grateful to have been able to read her story. Thank you for giving her a voice and publishing this book so that everyone can listen to her words of wisdom and inspiration.

A great book to inspire everyone to push thru adversities and come out the other side with humor and love. I learned about polio and how important family and friends are in managing a life-changing illness. Myrna didn't let polio stop her - she lived a fully and rich life with positivity and love. A captivating story. I want a sequel so I can learn more about Myrna's life!

Myrna Nielson Thacker is my aunt. I have always loved her determination, sense of humor, kindness, and optimism in the face of many challenges. I didn't know any of these stories from her younger days, before I read this book. It was such an inspiration to me to hear her experiences, perspectives, and to learn a little about her journey of being diagnosed with polio. I would love to see a second book written about the second half of her life as well!

I was fortunate to know Myrna during her life. She was always optimistic and interested in everything and everyone around her. Her sense of humor was infectious. This book is a compilation of her life and experiences with polio. The writing is engaging and inspirational and a real testament to the value of a positive attitude when dealing with hard things. Myrna's life and how she rose above her illness is a real inspiration, especially during these times.

What a beautiful book. Myrna has such a fun personality and her story is incredibly inspiring. It's also an important up-close, personal look about polio and what life was like before the vaccine, and the life-long effects from these types of viruses. Highly recommend.
