This is the 2nd grill pad we've purchased - the first one was a rectangular one for our Weber Performance Grill. It looks good, protects our wood deck and cleans up well. We liked the first one so much that we decided to purchase this one for the Weber Smoker, because there are times the charcoal bits fall out of the vents. We received the grill pad Saturday just in time to smoke ribs and pheasant thighs Sunday. A few coals (we're using lump charcoal and some of the bits are smaller) fell out onto the pad but did not harm the deck - I double checked under the pad where the coal fell. I highly recommend this product to anyone using a charcoal grill (I can't review for gas since my husband considers himself a purist and uses charcoal only).

The idea behind this mat is that it blocks the heat of the fire pit so as not to scorch whatever is underneath, such as decking or yard. Unfortunately, this mat did not do that. When I first took the mat out of the box I was surprised at how thin it was. It's basically a round piece of roof shingle. When I carried it by its handle it felt the handle would tear after a couple uses. We had our fire and the next morning I thought the device had worked because the grass was flattened down but it was still green. Now a few days later that circle of grass is brown and dead. It was clearly not shielded from the heat as it ought to have been. I wouldn't trust using this on a deck or any surface because it is sure to leave an ugly round burn mark. I really wanted this to work but we were very disappointed.

This pad -- unfortunately -- only fits in between the legs of my firepit. It does a good protection job of not letting the stone patio get seared and discolored by the heat, BUT I wish it was large enough so that all the firepit legs could sit on top of the pad...

Our stand-up kettle grill was causing a drip mess on our deck. The Grill Pad provides an attractive, and easy to clean solution. It is a far more substantial than anticipated, and lays flat. Handle cut-out makes carrying easy when it's time for a hose down.

I wish I had read done of the reviews more carefully prior to purchasing. The pad worked reasonably well for the first several uses under our firepit but simply disintegrated after our most recent use. The material simply crumbled leaving a large hole in the center, rendering it useless for future use. I would strongly advise against purchasing this item.

Have this placed under my Weber grill on my roof deck and has worked like a charm. The grill is on legs, with the charcoal about 3 feet from the ground. Not recommended for grills that sit on the ground as it may be too hot for the pad. But for what I have it is perfect.

Received as a gift, loved the size and shape for my small deck -- and sadly - my Grill pad lasted only 6 months. It just crumbled.. The heat just burned a hole straight through rendering it useless. Bummed as these aren't cheap.

Purchased to protect redwood deck under small go-anywhere charcoal grill. Works well to guard against heat transfer as well as drips. Lightweight but sturdy. Looks good, too. Bought on special with no shipping charges - unlike from other suppliers.
