Excellent book
I mistook the book for “ Built-Ins idea book” and gave it a bad review. That was a mistake. In contrary, this an excellent book with a lot of details for undertaking projects that are listed in it and beyond.

Absolutely Excellent. Clearly Written and Massively Illustrated with Photos and Sketches.
I am not a professional, however fairly accomplished DIY home remodeler. I am absolutely delighted with this book It taught me tips and tricks that were not apparent as I self taught myself through many home remodeling projects. This book covers all the bases with extremely clear narrative, coupled with a huge number of corresponding photos and illustrations. Nothing is left to ambiguity. I especially appreciate their in depth treatise on cutting and installing crown molding in multiple scenarios. I am currently doing crown molding which will float on top of old kitchen cabinets which do not rise all the way to the ceiling. I was trying to figure out the best way to secure crown along the tops of the cabinets, which then have to transition into a soffit that does rise to the ceiling above other cabinet areas. This book gave me enough food for thought that I was able to create a nailer cap on top of the floating cabinets, which had an outward angle slope to which I can securely nail the crown. Their explanations at every step were very easy to understand and visualize. This book is a must have for great tutorials which even beginners can follow and understand. As I move through a complete kitchen remodel, I find myself picking this book up frequently, since I am doing new door trim, wainscoating, and chair railsAn exceptional "how to" that you should add to your library, unless you have been doing skilled carpentry for many years Even at that, there are a lot of "pro tips" throughout the book, which might shed some light for the skilled carpenters.

Good overview but not for absolute beginners
I'm remodeling my home and need to do everything, from building built in bookcases and kitchen units, to finish work like baseboards. I also come at this with zero expertise as a carpenter, but I want to achieve professional results. Quite a challenge! I found this book gave me the confidence to try my hand at each activity, and it gave me the information I needed. One complaint, I've bought a couple of other books (insulate and weatherize, remodeling a basement) in this series and am a big fan generally. This was slightly worse than some of the others. It contains all the information you will need, but does not take the time to teach. Rather, the reader will have to pace themself, and will find themselves going back to re-read the relevant parts many times. Perhaps I'm asking too much, or perhaps some of the other books in this series have just gone that extra mile without needing to.Still a good book, but not as easy to read as some of the others in the series.

Quality guide
Extremely helpful and clear guide. Each page has "pro tips" which provide valuable additional info that I would have likely never discovered on my own. Whether a weekend warrior or pro, this book will help you hone your skills. It goes into detail about the in's and out's of installing mouldings and baseboards, casing windows and helps get you started on built ins. I've applied the tips I've learned from this book to furniture making to improve overall quality. The short of all this? This book gives you all the advice of having a pro by your side when and where you need it, and the cost of the book is worth its weight.

Buy it, read it, learn some tips, secrets and new skills
I'm new to trim carpentry and wanted a step-by-step book to accelerate my learning and minimize mistakes while improving quality.Within 10 minutes of reading, I picked up several great new ideas and one new and important technique. I was amazed that after completing two full rooms of crown moulding that there were so many shortcuts, secrets and techniques I hadn't picked up and wouldn't of ever learned on my own.Inside, there are many color photos, expert tips described in the margins and step-by-step instructions on how to best complete the project.I recommend this book for begginers BEFORE you start putting up crown moulding or starting other trim carpentry projects.

Trim Carpentry & Built-ins
I have not yet read the book but, I did spend an hour plus going through it and glancing at each page. I'm 60 years old and have done a fair amount of woodworking over the years. I learned three new tricks by just leafing through the book. The pages I stopped and read were well written and very helpful. The drawings and photos were applicable to the text and added meaning to the written word.I would highly recomend it for ones library. I'd buy it again at full price but luckily, I stole a "used" copy for about $9 w/shipping.

Better for beginners
I purchase this book to get some ideas, this book goes into detail from wood selection to all types of valuable information, on all types of products. For it would work well for beginners, as some of the info is a bit redundant for mid to experienced carpenters. Highly Recommend for beginners.

Outdated yet thorough
Most of the things in this book I already knew, but it has some great tips for those new to the profession. However, as is typical with all of Taunton's publishings, the tools, materials, and methods are outdated (the methods less so because you can always learn stuff from old-schoolers).For the kindle price, it's worth it, but be warned, the book looks terrible in kindle format, but it's readable. You may want to just YouTube what you want to learn and forget this book. Plenty of pics in the book, which I like, especially the 80's styles and haircuts which make me laugh

Excellent book
I consider myself a beginner but found this book outstanding. It has enough detail to tell you how to complete a project properly. I'd recommend more pictures to the author to augment some of the trickier tasks he explains but it's written well enough to understand. It covers the basics and the finer points all in one place. A great reference manual when you get stuck.

Disapointed
More of a tips book for an experience carpenter rather than teaching manual for newbies!
