JRP02 - Mini-Monster Book of Rock Drumming
R**M
This is in my Top 3 of drum books.
My others are Benny Greb's "The Language of Drumming" and Gary Chester's "The New Breed". What makes this one so great is that it explores sooooo many beats and techniques that you hear all the time in GREAT (and complex) Rock and really gets you to learn! Don't be mislead or fooled by "Rock" in the title. Think John Bonham grooves, or polyrhythms like Bohemian Rhapsody. Some pretty trick stuff. And it's not like one or two examples here and there; there are pages of study and variations of themes (similar to Greb's book). So many times so far, I've gotten to a lesson and recognized it as something I've heard drummers play in some of the more difficult rock songs. Get this book!

Best drum book I own.
I'm an intermediate drummer and own lots of drum books. This book is far and away the best of them.Endless great beats, a great section on learning hi-hat splashes and RLRL on hi-hat, with many many excercisesin all the sections. This book would be fantastic for any drummer at any level. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Highly Recommended for Beginner/Intermidiate.
If you are just getting started on drums THIS IS THE BOOK! This is what I learned to get my feet wet in the drumming world. It helps if you have a teacher to help guide you but once you understand how to read drum music you will be flying in this book... It teaches you a solid drum fondation with tons and tons of different beats.Quarters notes, 8th, 16th... I believe there's 32nd's as well. Book has shuffles, funk 8th beats, odd time and even metric modulation. This is a great book and I recently bought my 2nd copy of this book due to wear and tear. I still go thru this book. Tons of differnt things to choose from.

Perfect for all levels!
I just LOVE this book! I just started drumming almost 4 weeks ago and started practicing with this book. My instructor recommended that I buy it since he used it himself when he started drumming. It is very straight forward and the exercises start with all the basics which is perfect for a brand new drummer like me, and they become more challenging by adding more variations to what I have already learned from the first few pages. I'm still going through the book and I'm excited about what's coming up next. My instructor still uses the book himself as warm-ups. I have also read from other reviews in other websites that you can go through this book again, but doing the exercises left-handed. I totally recommend it!

Excellent book to work through
Really enjoying this book. I find it challenging and if you add accents and high hit patterns you really could use this book for a very long time. I would definitely recommend to someone. I will most likely look I to other books by this author. Buy it and have fun.

Fully endorsed by a drum teacher
This is the best book for learning drum set, for a few reasons:1. It's extremely thorough and covers every basic concept in rock drumming, with minimal text and clutter. 96 pages of beats, average 25 exercises/page;2. Beats are written clearly with hands on one line, and feet on another line, as opposed to a traditional staff lines.3. The notes are spaced out exactly as they should be played. This makes a huge difference for learning and playing, and some drum books don't do that. For example, for a beat where the hi-hat plays a "1-e-and ... 2-and" rhythm, there is a space after the "and" hit, it's not just squished together. Seems like a no-brainer, but for beginners learning to read, books where the spacing is off can be a huge road block in understanding.4. The beats are actually good usable beats, not random useless exercises.

Its worth each cent/penny
I’ve already practised many of the exercises from this book, and just decided to buy it on paper. It worths every cent/penny as a complete, flawless collection of intermediate rock drum exercises.Complete beginners may make use of someone explaining the concepts a little bit though as there is very little text in the book.
