Plangea White - 58-60" Wide Nylon Lycra Swimwear/Activewear Fabric by The Yard

I bought this to for a rather unconventional purpose - to make a physics demonstration! We required the fabric to be about equally stretchy in all directions, and to be able to go back to its original shape with minimal warping. We also didn't want to deal with sewing hems, as this would be a hassle. Fortunately, this material fit the bill. (Cut edges do not fray with this type of knit.)The fabric was stretched over a circular frame, and we put some heavy metal balls on the fabric to simulate gravity warping space-time. Then we rolled some marbles on the fabric so kids could see them orbit around the heavier balls. It worked quite well.After two months' worth of weekly demo sessions, with kids who sometimes throw the balls rather violently down on the fabric, the material has been holding up nicely, as it is good, moderately thick material with nice properties that allows it to retain its elasticity despite being stretched and relaxed repeatedly. It is not wearing out nearly as quickly as I thought it might.

I bought the navy fabric, which does not seem to be as thick/heavy as the other colors from what the reviews are saying. I think there is some variation between the colors.The fabric I got is a good match for things like leotards and underwear. I would not feel confident using it for things like swimming costumes though, as it seems a bit too thin and might become translucent in water

I was looking for a thicker swimsuit fabric to make board shorts, so when I saw the reviews that said this fabric was not shiny and was very thick I ordered a couple of yards. It turned out to be not quite as thick as I'd like, but I think I can make it work even though I'd like something with more body to it. It seems more suited to flirty skirts or sarongs.

This is a really thick, dense fabric. Good quality but different than what you expect for "swim" fabric.

Great fabric, great price... bad packaging for shipment. There was a giant hole as if someone opened it already, but no damage to the fabric inside.

This fabric is well made but a little heavy for swimsuits, which is why I got it. Good fabric-I just don't know enough about sewing to know which fabric to buy. My girls still made suits out of it and they wear them.Shipped in a timely manner too!
