Simple, Delicious Foods Like Grandma Made
I love this cookbook. The recipes are, for the most part, fairly simple and have been delicious so far. I have made the potato pancakes, the strawberry cheesecake (pictured), and the wiener schnitzel. All within the last 3 days. It’s made cooking fun again for me. No quinoa or super food BS in this book. If you’re looking for yuppy, trendy food this is not your book. If you want true comfort food like grandma used to make, this is a sure bet.

Love this book!
I love this cookbook! I bought one and then bought four more to give to all the German "Grandmas" in my family. The pictures are lovely (I am a visual learner so I need a picture of whatever it is I am making), the stories and background were interesting and fun to read, and best of all, the recipes are delicious and easy enough for anyone to follow. This is German cooking for everyone, including the two vegetarians in the family.

You Need a Scale or Metric Measuring
I bought this cookbook hoping to find a black forest cake recipe that would remind me of my German grandmother who passed away before I was born. My mother said her mother was a great cook from Aschauffenburg, Bavaria. Unfortunately, there is no way to preview this cookbook. Sadly, there is no black forest cake and all of the recipes require knowledge of the metric system and possession of a kitchen scale. Ingredients are listed by weight which doesn't work for me. If you have a kitchen scale and are comfortable using the metric system you may be able to cook these recipes. Also, not every recipe has a photo which I find challenging. I am not familiar with German food and without a photo of how the recipe is supposed to look, I am lost. It will join my cookbook library but most likely remain on the shelf. My Min Pin was excited to learn there is a recipe with a dog in the title (Cold Dog), but since it is made with chocolate he walked away muttering to himself and sadly shaking his head. He knows dogs cannot eat chocolate.

Great Gift
The recipient of this Grandma’s German Cookbook was beside herself to get her very own German cookbook. She loves the book and the buttery Krist Stolen I made her for a Christmas gift. Couldn’t be more pleased!

Authentic Bavarian Style Recipes
I like the recipes featured in this book. I must admit I haven’t tried to make any yet but I’m sure I will! My mother is German and cooked many German foods for us growing up. I thought these most resembled what she would make. When mom visited recently she saw the cookbook and and loved it. She asked me to order one for her as well! If you know any particular Germans this is the highest compliment. :)

in my opinion it's a great book with authentic meals
I'm German and was looking for a gift for my American friend who loves to cook. She asked me a couple of times for German dishes and I always had problems with the translation. So here we are.. in my opinion it's a great book with authentic meals. You won't do anything wrong with this cookbook!

Wonderful!
I love this cookbook! Many of these recipes are exactly as my German mum and my Oma taught me to make, but there are lots of dishes I hadn't tried or didn't have a recipe for. I have a few German cookbooks, but this one I actually use!

A TRIP ROUND MY CHILDHOOD
My family is Austrian/German so I was brought up in the UK surrounded by foodstuffs which we used in an unconventional way ie we used olive oil to cook with whereas British people put it in their ears when they wanted to unclog them! Such was the way with baking: no Victoria Sandwiches, Scones, Shortbread at our house - oh no! It was filled with Mohn Kuchen, Bienenstich and the like and this book has brought it all back to me, and more.I haven't been to Germany for many years for lots of reasons (mostly that Life got in the way) but this book transports you into a familiar world, full of 'different' ingredients and recipes which will go down a storm with friends, family and anyone else you bake for. When we have gatherings at work and the table is set with boring sandwiches and the British cakes mentioned above, I walk in with my German delights and guess which ones are the first to be wolfed down? It's like a swarm of locusts .......If you have a European heritage like me and want to relive your youth through baking experiences, this is definitely the one and only German baking book I would recommend. If you are not European but a keen baker (the recipes are very easy and beautifully illustrated) and want to wow people, buy this book. You won't regret it.It's Wunderbar!
